Swine design thoughts

I've been thinking a bit and I am considering changing the concepts for the Swine enemies. Instead of them all being based on goats I would instead base the various enemy types on different animals.

I am approaching the point where I am going to start actually making the mods and I am curious to hear if you guys have any thoughts on this.

I have some ideas that I think I'm gonna draw up after I'm done with the Defender, I still haven't 100% made up my mind on this.

RabbitEnthusiast

Personally, I'd prefer if they remained goat theme. Perhaps you could poll the decision to see what the majority would prefer.

Dreaduser

Doing various animals would be interesting, though Swine were chosen by The Ancestor bc pig flesh is similar to human flesh. I suppose anthro goats would also be pretty similar to humans though lmao

Chapter Master Bel

I liked the goat gals honestly, it was a nice parallel to how the og game used swine (also a common animal for sacrafices in dark fantasy), made sense with the original premise. Making it a variety of animals makes the warrens feel like a zoo.

Sir Valentine

I was a major fan of the goat/satyr girls you did before (hope they can at least get some more art if they might be dropped.. or perhaps an alternate class skin) But if you feel like going more varied beastman perhaps a warhammer esk route could work? (mostly still satyr-esk farm animal themes/features but with a few predatory traits like fangs & claws)

Verixa Okblek

True, and I also think that ultimately it's your choice what style you give to the Warrens. My opinion remains an opinion, nothing more. :) I will appreciate the enemies you will design whatever you choose (although I really hope you keep the concept for The Flesh bossfight) ;)

SaporeVeroSPA

While I do prefer the enemies to be the same animal type, i am open to seeing various animals as long as the most of the motifs are there. Like it would be good if they still had the tattoos, darker fur tones, and jagged/junked gear.

Rhinovolt

probably not quite on all fours, no, still pretty savage looking though.

RabbitEnthusiast

I wouldn’t mind if you went with something other than goats, but I do still think that the swine need to be kept to one animal type. That way they’ll feel like a district and cohesive enemy type and not just a hodgepodge of furries.

Jkjk12

honestly your swinefolk designs were always a weak link for me, since they're so uniform? if you go with all goats, i'd at least vary up the colors a bit, to add some diversity.

Moth Man

Fair enough, l look forward to seeing what designs you have in mind. Also was a your plan still to have rabid gnasher be on all fours?

StarKill3rMeteor

And so I gave you my opignon, I didn't understand it like that, chimera indeed could work, still a bigger fan of the satyrs I think tho. We will see with your concepts, only time will tell.

Fantomas

I think variety is a great idea, I my self would love to see a werewolf enemy if possible, but that just me

Teacup

Not any particular reason really, I just don't really care for pigs and goats felt like they would be close enough in terms of vibe.

RabbitEnthusiast

I don't see it couldn't be changed so that the ancestor experimented on any animal they could get their hands on, it could even potentially be some chimera stuff going on. Though like I said this is me just spitballing and getting feedback from you guys. I might take a few days to draw up some concepts for this after I'm done with the Defender, seems like that would help people visualize it.

RabbitEnthusiast

I do like variety so having multiple different animals would definitely be cute. Also since I'm new can I ask why you decided to go with goats originally and not pig- (original) or cowgirls (Classic)? (Just curious)

SomeoneUnknowns

Well I really am for the all goats approche, because le original faction is all pig for a reason, the ancestor experimented on pigs not all animals, their identity isn't just being beastmen it's all of them being one specie, one family even as they all breed with each other. Them being different animals would undermine that I think. The all goat/satyr approch was really on the nose since the satyr ... well they all like being really close to one another. However I am not in your mind, I do not see how you would make it work. Maybe having a sketch or two about how you plan to change it would help puting it in place. As of right now I am a fervent defender of the current design, I don't think you could have depicted the swine better with pretty girls.

Fantomas

A real Animal Farm in the warrens with that

Meh Just something

I was thinking something like that, yea, nothing super exotic.

RabbitEnthusiast

I think giving the Warrens the "beastmen" identity is pretty distinct from the other zones, I don't really have any anthro stuff in the other areas, the Rabid Gnasher is pretty much the only real exception, at least in regards to mammals.

RabbitEnthusiast

The swines are already pretty anthro, and there aren't that many anthro enemies in other areas. I think the Warrens will still have a pretty distinct identity.

RabbitEnthusiast

I think it can still have a distinct identity, I don't really have much in the way of anthro animals in other areas.

RabbitEnthusiast

I wasn't thinking anything super exotic, mostly stuff like cats, dogs, horses, sheep, cows, etc. This is mostly me sharing some ideas.

RabbitEnthusiast

An idea would be the goat/satyr raises different kind animals to be slaughter. We can have Wretch as mini cow (or huge tiddy) to spill breastmilk instead of vomit (but I don't it's your style to shoot milk) or Wretch can be the only pig among the concept. For Swinetaur, a mini goat riding a huge Yak/cow with huge horn since we already have centaur in Farmstead (though it hard to implement Crunching Backhand). The goat could come with various breed/design like ram, sheep(?) and different horn shape.

Leakaomi

Limiting them to farm animals would be good if you don't wanna do just goats. Either way, will be happy to replace all the enemies with pretty girls

Meh Just something

Hi, new here, love the work you've been doing! I really like the concepts you've done so far and think the goat designs would be really cool for the warrens, but it would also be cool to see what ideas you have now since those were back in 22. Keep up the good work I'm excited to see more!

Kay Bee

Spoke my words but better, thank you 🥹

ColdLobo

It Is a great idea, but in my heart I really loved your goat-themed early concept art for the swine enemies. Mainly because there are already many other thematic mods based on other animals for these enemies, and goats are something never seen before for them. Also beacause I imagine the Warrens enemies as a single race with many different breeds, and not as a collection of different races. Maybe I'd like to see the idea of different animals for the fungal-bloated Weald enemies, where contagion has corrupted the different life forms of the forest.

SaporeVeroSPA

I feel like them being different animals won't make them feel like a distinct regional group anymore, But maybe if the swines are more anthro than the other beast enemies it could be interesting?

StarKill3rMeteor

Personally I think keeping them as swine/goats may be a good idea because that way you have a uniform race and there is no overlap with say the farmstead or the cove with designs.

Soup

What kind of animals did you have in mind? If you’re planning on going for something more farm animal based (Sheep, Cow, Horse, etc.) I could see that working. Unless you plan to go a certain route with this idea? Either way, I’d like to know more.
