Ecchi Sensei Week 1 - Status Report No. 11:
Added 2019-06-15 20:49:08 +0000 UTC
Hello hello!
We've got good news and bad news, let's take the good news first...
The bad news aren't that bad. But they're not good either.
Okay, now onto the bad news.
After a lot of thought, we decided that our very ambitious plan regarding multi-language support can't be realized in its current form. We simply lack the manpower to compensate for the additional workload. The Week 1 project is and has been a mountain of work and because of our misunderjudgement - multilanguage support does not mean twice but almost four times as much work - we decided to put that idea on ice for now.
To put it simply: For the time being, there will be no German language support. Latecomer said that he will keep working on adding German language support for Week 1 later so that we can really become multilingual sooner or later, at the latest when we can get more manpower.
If you see it that way, we wasted a very very very big amount of time implementing the translation framework for Week 1 which is why it has been delayed again and again.
The problem that we have now is the following: Months ago, we decided that the German language script (warning, now it's getting nerdy) is the leading script and we're telling "Ren'py" that "German" is the main language and English is the language that is to be added. As many of you know, since Day 3 I've been writing the main script (dialogues, script, and basically the entire story) in German and Latecomer is translating it to English.
The only difference was that, before we started working on Week 1, we changed that because we wanted to become multilingual.
Well, long story short... What I want to say is that we've got additional overhead again to replace the leading German script with the English one so that English is leading again.
That means that the current English translation files are just text. It looks roughly like this:
# Weird Ren'py code written in red:
mc "Guten Morgen!"
# Translate
mc "Good morning!"
There are nothing but text passages like that. That means that we need to delete the whole German text and insert the English text line by line where the German text was so that the script works. Otherwise there would be only text, no script logic, no images, no music, no nothing ^^
It is entirely possible that we might perhaps have to delay it a little again.
I know, I know, trust me, I'm the one who is the most upset about that since Week 1 is such a time and energy intensive piece of work - but what doesn't let me give up and what keeps making me keep working on it constantly is the fact that, once it's all done, Ecchi Sensei will gain a lot of quality. And the better Ecchi Sensei is, the happier you are. This is what motivates me and my team. We're not giving up, we keep powering through and giving our best.
I guarantee you, if the release dates need to be postponed again, we'll do everything in our power so it's not excessive. You've been waiting for long enough and to those of you who might now be more demotivated than others, let me assure you the following.
I faithfully promise to you, as true as I'm BlueCat, that we have already come up with a method to avoid this permanent time pressure in the future so that there should be no need for delays in the future. (If Late loses an arm or gets a stroke, it would cause a delay but that would be inevitable ^^)
Alright then, enough wall of text, let's move on with the presentation of today's new NEKO.... and another mysterious person.
First up, the mysterious person.
It's a sister... aaaaand it's the sister of... Tomoe! Tomoe Takeda!
I present to you Taira Takeda.

Taira takes after her mother and she is an exemplary student in the clan. She and her sister are just about to tackle their final tasks, but be warned. Taira does not only look evil, she's a scheming bitch but I'm sure that some of you are in love with our machiavellian and always selfish sadistic Taira.
We'll get to know their other sister next week.
Now it's time for a few new maps.
If you've been paying attention on my Discord server recently, you already know that I've been working on new maps.

There's the laboratory that we'll get to see in D8+D9. Which laboratory? Crazy Nurse's!

We'll stay scientific because here we've got the science club (Himiko is a member there)

As you know, Itsumi has got some kind of "nightclub" in the basement of the second nearly unused school building and we'll get to spend a lot of time there in Week 2.

(oppai means "boobs")
Speaking of spending time... During Week 1 we've tried time and time again to watch Hana swim but then she had no time, then we had no time... In Week 2 we are going to have time and the extravagant exorbitant giant swimming area of the school contains not only a replica olympic stadium but also a big indoor pool, a little training pool, and an outdoor pool with diving towers. It's going to be wet when we pay a visit to the swimming club!

There's another map that I don't want to hold back now...

*Tadaaaa* The infamous Neko Club!
Which brings me to the last item on today's agenda and I don't want to beat around the bush any longer, so....

Emoneko! Aka Koharu.
As always, I hope you're happy with the status report and I want to apologize again for the already existing and maybe potential delays.
So long,
Blue

2019-06-17 15:47:34 +0000 UTCNormally I would disagree with you about people not minding the delays, but with the level of transparency that Blue has maintained in these weekly posts, it makes these delays more tolerable. There is a clear understanding on why these delays are happening and the reasons are not just flimsy excuses. I am just happy that Blue and his team came to the realization that multilingual support is not something they can provide at this time. I can only imagine how much that sucked to realize that all that time was wasted, but it shows a real level of maturity for this team to understand their own capabilities at this time. I hate this for Blue and team, but now that they have a clear direction going ahead, nothing should slow them down.
