Here's the PDF for chapter 16! I always love reading the chapter in one go, its a different experience from reading one page at a time. Though I must admit, the angst is drawn out so much more when you can only read 3 pages a week ahaha.
Man, I still can't believe we made it to the 70s. When we first wrote them meeting each other again, the scene was very different. I found the excerpt from the original script 11 years ago~

Needless to say, this version of the story will be very different from the original!
We've been really enjoying drawing this arc. There's still a lot of fun clothing and really beautiful architecture.
I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I originally designed Raziol with short hair. This was because Raziol's original story, before we decided to write them together, took place in modern times. So in a way, Raziol's design has come full circle. (If I ever find that first sketch, i'll post it on here haha) Raziol's story was called Kosmos Nosophoros, and while this aspect of his story has changed a lot, there will still be remnants from the original short story. ;D
We will be writing chapter 17 this week, but in the meantime, we'll be posting the full 72 page PDF of The Ring of Saturn, the very first Novae universe story we made into a comic. It takes place in WW1 England and features Raziol as a main character, Sulvain appears as well, though briefly. More on that later!~ 😉
We'll also have a newsletter about what we're planning for this year, so look out for those this week!

2025-01-08 22:18:30 +0000 UTCYes! It's funny because Sulvain has such an extensive life, so it's relatively easy to line up his timeline with another character. When I was telling Jen about Raziol's story we decided to make their story take place right before he was turned. In the original short story, the scene with the the alien creature happens in the beginning and is only a few pages long. Lol who knew it would evolve the way it did. The rest of the short story all takes place in modern times, so this whole time we've basically been in Raziol's backstory. As far as making revisions, it's actually pretty exciting to go back, rewrite and make changes. For the Novae script, since it's so old now, we look over the original draft and make a new outline together, sometimes with totally new material. We usually sit down and write our thoughts for what we want to happen then organize it in a document that becomes the outline. Then we just start rewriting. We hardly ever look at the original script unless there's something we really want to keep. We mostly just try to capture the feeling and the most important scenes. We also rarely follow the outline closely and often make changes as we work on the pages. Webcomics are unique in that way, you get a long time to think about something and sometimes you get a new and better idea haha~ I can understand wanting to keep your characters backstory solid when you're working with a group tho! It's not as easy to change things when there are a lot of storytellers involved who are counting on you to hold up your side of the tent. 😆 But I feel like as long as it doesn't interfere with other characters or big story plot stuff, you can feel free to change as much as you like. :) Raz's story didn't have magic in it before Novae, but because we decided to add Sulvain into the mix it felt natural to add elements of his story too, and it ended up so much better because of that. It's so cool to hear about your writing adventures Alys! Jen recently took a writing class and we are both in the process of learning how to write nice prose. (We're both about 10k words into each of our novels hehe) And thank you so much for your kind words about Saturn! It was such a long time ago but we're both still proud of that story 💖 We hope your new year is going wonderfully too!

It's 2022 Valentine's illustration and I saw it on the webtoon!!! (under ep 12 PT 36) Oh god I didn't hallucinated it 😂😂😂😂 Back then, when you gave me that link, I didn't answer that the airline au is not the one, because I was confused that maybe this ilustration doesn't exist 😂

I love seeing the excerpt. Is it hard not to feel the pull of a “canon” when you’re doing revisions? I’m getting back into writing collaboratively with a group of friends and I’m fascinated by how much more locked in I feel I have to be with my characters’ backstories (some established a decade ago)—obviously coming off of novel revisions I’ve had the sole carte blanche to make wild story changes. What’s the process like when you’re deciding what of the original story to adjust together? Sorry, I’m just so curious! Thank you for this chapter—it was so FUN to get to this point at last. And I can’t wait for Ring of Saturn—I read it out of curiosity when I stumbled across Novae and it’s part of what hooked me. So much depth of feeling! I can’t wait to discuss it with these fine people. Hope your new year’s going wonderfully 💛💛💛

In a way I cannot imagine him coming up with something different XD also I know he likes and knows how to dance (he danced with Raziol two times in the story)'YET the vision of his disco moves and John Lennon glasses is delightful sjcjdjf oh god so cute, my dear dear cute man xD sidjdifjfif Raziol as cool as ever. I wondered who is influencing the timeline in which they coexist. I mean is XVII century a time when Raziol was born, but it was part of his back story only or was it important century for Sulvain more, was 70s I'm portant for Sulvain and Raziol would "normally" appear in the XXI century, but he "moved" to the century earlier since they both are in those times anyway or was it his timeline and Sulvain is existing through the time anyway so he could just be there for him etc etc

I am all for Sulvain relaxing and having fun. I think I have mentioned that in the past...that I am glad to see him not as stoic as he always was in France. He deserves to have fun and enjoy life. Sorry if I didn't express that before.

I'm so glad you both took the story a different direction. I think it still has its silly moments, but it's matured into something more beautiful with so much more depth. I can't wait to read Rings of Saturn! I just finished studying the two World Wars in college, so to see Raziol involved (I hope he isn't in the trenches!) is so cool! He got to witness first hand the evolution of aviation and mechanized warfare, as well as death and human suffering Europe hadn't experienced in modern times. 🥺 As always, rest well. I hope you both had a good holiday and New Year's Eve. I can't wait to see what's in store for us. 🥰😄
