The very first Novae sketches~

Hi everyone!

We're very excited to share some of these never before seen sketches~ These have been hiding on my computer for years! I really had to do some digging!

Back in January of 2013, Jen and I decided we would try writing together for the first time, and that it would be a crossover between my astronomer character and her necromancer character. Jen was in China at the time so we had to write back and forth when we were both awake, which was a few hours in the morning and a few at night. 

It started out as just a fun activity to do together since we couldn't hang out in real life. It was fun seeing these characters interact and we really enjoyed plotting together as the story progressed. But after just a couple weeks of writing, we both realized the story was taking a much deeper route than either of us expected. The excitement of watching this story unfold took hold of the both of us and wouldn't cease. We both became obsessed and wrote 2 to 6 hours a day. In two months we had written the first two arcs, which at the time was over 120 pages of script.

During that time we would send each other sketches, usually of scenes we had just written. We hadn't thought about turning Novae into a comic yet, but we just had to draw them. I was always so excited to get an email from Jen in the morning and see her drawings. Novae was really starting to take form, and we both knew it was quickly taking a huge place in our hearts.

Since then, we've written a few AUs as well, I'll be posting more in the next update haha~

Looking at these sketches feels so nostalgic, and really brings back that initial excitement we first felt when the story was first taking form. We hope you all feel the same way as we dive more into the story. 🌟

One of the last nights we were at the hospital, I had an intense dream about Novae. I can't remember what happened but there was this very distinct feeling of what it felt like the first time we wrote about these characters. Excitement, nostalgia, a feeling of tapping into something else, watching characters come alive and the story unfold on its own. It was a revitalizing feeling and has kept with me since.

When we finally came home we saw Orion high in the sky, just like it was when we first started writing Novae. And just like it appears in the story. 

I hope the winter night skies have a profound effect on all of you as well and that Novae has changed the way it appears to you.

Anyway, got a little sentimental there :,) Sometimes going through something hard makes you think about what matters most to you, and Novae is most definitely high in the sky for both of us~ 🌟✨
