Side Project - Winter Worm Summer Grass
Added 2017-09-27 21:41:18 +0000 UTCThese two characters, Bay and Etel, are from a concept for a short story I did a couple years back. It's a sci-fi based on a dream I had about a planet that had it's sun blocked by a spaceship and always experienced winter.
Gender and sex are very fluid on this planet and a person's physical biology changes and develops based on their needs.
The title refers to a special fungus in Chinese medicine that is found in Nepal and Tibet. This parasitic fungus attaches itself to a living moth larvae. It kills the host and grows out of the body of the caterpillar when winter ends.
In the story the inhabitants of this planet are hosts to various types of herbs and these herbs are harvested once they mature. However this kills the host. The protagonists in this story are fighting to alter this fate.
