Mini-Devlog #35: Things are moo-ving along

Do you like my pun? I think I'm funny.

Our biggest thing to show off this week is the addition of farm animals! We still have a lot to add, though. We struggled a bit back and forth with whether or not to call the chicken and cows something different. In the end, we settled for not naming them, as we feel like it can be hard to remember unique fantasy names for something with such a distinct real-life parallel, and it's likely that people will just default to calling them chicken and cows in the end. In my designs, I tried making them a little different from I guess what you would call your "standard" chickens and cows, but they're still pretty similar.

The cow's design used to be much different, but I quickly realized it doesn't translate well into the pixel style. I didn't have enough pixels to properly convey the fluffiness of the cows, er, skirt. It also just looked strange

In the end, I kept her large ears and big tail. I think it'll be in fun in the future to add different patterns and color variations!

We also did some design work for different systems, including the pet, player, and farm animals. We wanted an easy way to view the status of everything without taking more journal tabs than necessary, so we went to work laying out the UI.

We settled with a toggle-able view for specific buff numbers, since recursive enjoys seeing specific number values while I prefer...no numbers. We figured there are other players out there like me who can't really comprehend what 0.5% really means, so the default will be displayed in text like "slightly higher".

We're also working on some other stuff! But it's a surprise, so we can't show you right now 😟 Please look forward to it!
