AD-Free Episode 536 - The Fun Has Arrived

On this edition of the Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast, Elliot (@yankeegunner) is joined by Clive (@clivepafc) and Paul (@poznaninmypants) to discuss a fun win at Leeds. There’s huge praise for Martinelli of course and a discussion of why to attack looked so good other than the obvious factor of Leeds being understrength. Individual performances are analyzed. There’s some debate about issues in the second half, and a look ahead to what’s possible for Arsenal this season. All that and more on this edition of the Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast.

Comments

I wasn’t intending to be specifically critical of you or this particular pod, was more just an observation from my perspective. For sure it’s been recognised that the last few games have delivered more of what people want. I just wonder if more credit should be given on the player development. Whenever we’re not playing well people tend to talk more about the coaching staff experience etc... To be honest, my comment isn’t solely directed at the pod but also mainstream coverage here in the UK. There is very little detailed analysis of Arteta, period. I get that this goes with mid-table obscurity but meanwhile on BBC Radio they’re already waxing lyrical about the tactical nuances of Steven Gerrard’s midfield at Villa (yawn!). Keep the great work, Elliot and hope you and the family have a healthy and relaxing holiday season!

I think he’s so tough to analyze because he’s the classic example of a player who isn’t bad enough that you need to move on from him, but maybe isn’t quite good enough to go where we want to go. A good player one notch below what we need. Especially his limitations. I don’t think it’s entirely a coincidence we haven’t finished top 4 since he arrived. (Nor do I think it’s his fault per se). He suits a slightly lower game or more space I think. Which is why he looks fantastic for Switzerland

I think there’s a whole section (correct me if I’m wrong) where I say my one hang up with arteta was the football not being fun and now he’s delivering fun attacking football that we can all connect with. There’s some credit in there for him for sure. I think

I guess it’s the nature of the beast but i find the reluctance to praise Arteta somewhat frustrating. We’re eulogising over these young players without really giving much credit to “the process” behind it all. Arteta gave some really interesting quotes on why Martinelli is thriving (which to me is more relevant than “how” he is thriving”) after the game which seem to have flown under the radar. It was around building a player and only exposing them at the right moment. Sadly, I get that praising or criticising a manager these days days is always divisive to an extent but I find it hard not to be optimistic about what I’m seeing and that this is not down to talent alone...a loss or two wouldn’t change that for me right now.

As much as I sighed when xhaka got caught up in that drama I think we’re undervaluing him, especially when it comes to the culture we’re trying to foster at the club. Feels similar to how liverpool fans viewed jordon Henderson until they realised how integral he was to that squad. Remember xhaka basically never gets injured. I dunno, I’ve wanted him gone in the past but hes changed in my estimation especially when I saw how good he was in the euros this summer

Piotr...or is it that Gabriel knows his role?

Also thought Gabriel was really poor in build up. always gave it back to Ramsdale or to White

Agree with Clive on Tomiyasu. Can't believe he's being overlooked every game for stonks up.
