Aubameyang and the Captaincy

Comments

I celebrated the players surrounding the ref like a goal (KT elbow).something has changed both on the sideline n dressing room hopefully.

I think Arteta is a bit too much now….he better win…winning covers everything, if not his man management style is gonna come into question…

javaughan clarke

Obviously he cares about the short term as in next game but at times he doesn’t always prioritise the short term. He thinks about the fabric and standards that need to be adhered to now and over the long term

In general I agree but I do think it’s pretty unlikely anyone takes auba’s wages off our hands

Elliot look it was Artetas mistake to give him a new contract. Having said that please understand Auba is a serial offender. He cannot break descipline as he disrespects his colleagues, fellow professionals and also the fan base who buys his merchandise , watches his game and contributes to his grotesque wages. Roof riddance to bad rubbish. Give the armband to Ramsdale and let him mould this team in his image. If Arteta cannot get his troops to rally together on his decision and instill a sense of siege mentality and reach higher then he needs to go. Sell Auba to Barca in Jan and get done with it

Thanks !

Well done guys you nailed it on the drama ! Super watch along too.. thanks !

Clive: Arteta has to care about the short term, he doesn't get to (as manager of Arsenal football club) just sideline valuable players that could win this football club points in a very competitive league. I'm sorry but this whole Arteta thing is making it sound like he is bigger than this football club, I honestly am sick and tired of hearing about him and his disciplinary approach, I didn't realise we had hired a school teacher instead of , you know, a manager that gets us back in the top four? Here's another thing, all this drama that Arteta kicks up every year obfuscates the league positions he has led us to , not to mention the fact that we don't have any European competition at all. He has broken more bad records at this club and yet there is this weird attitude ignoring the THING HE WAS SIGNED TO DO! Get points for this football club, stop with this school teacher nonsense, it's cooperate speak, process, non-negotiables, blah, blah, blah. Win football games and you could say anything you want and people would be fine with it. Do not forget that at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that league table, the club and Arteta are doing a fine job distracting people with all sorts of intangible PR speak, I wasn't a fan of Wenger towards the end but the man didn't feel like a walking Cooperate PR machine, when he spoke he was genuine, listening to Arteta is like listening to an advert whenever companies make mistakes and are very very very careful with what they say. No wonder the Kroenke's love this guy.

After the dust settled on this news in my head, I'm happy the club (and I think it was key figures in the club, not just Arteta) took this decision. For too many years we've had this Arsenal malaise where players would join, be average and that be that. And instilling positive behaviours off the pitch must have an impact when it comes to training, and then in games. I'm not saying anything long term positive will definitely come of it, but at least they're getting away from the previous direction of travel.

It’s definitely relevant that the player is still here and was captain in large part because of the manager. They’re linked

Really interesting! In principle I 100% agree! The original sin is with the player. The question is what you do when that player starts acting in a way that isn’t ideal. There are various ways to deal with the situation and we can only speculate about whether this is the right one. But that doesn’t exonerate the player

At 25 minutes Elliot you finally said the most important part of all this. Arteta decided to give him a new contract. Arteta decided to give him the captaincy. Now that those are turning out to be bad decisions, where is Arteta taking any responsibility for this? The excuses keep rolling in for this guy and its so weird to see the continuous defenses when there is example after example of his decisions and the fallout from them. I will continue to be unapolegetically critical and a thorn in your guys side because the writing for me is on the wall with this guy.

Interesting discussion Elliot. The only thing I’d say is, I’m a professional actor. I’ve been the head of many cast and companies over the years. It’s always been made very aware to me what is expected of me as the head of a company. A huge part of my role is what I do on stage and screen, of course. But I also set the standard to my cast. I should be the first at warm ups. I shouldn’t come in hanging! I should be polite and welcoming to everyone. That’s why I get paid more and that’s why the expectations on me are higher. So when I’m late it means more than when someone else is. I kinda refuse to believe that this isn’t what was made aware to Auba and he’s clearly not met expectations for a while now. This isn’t even the first time we’ve been made aware of it. Tricky stuff of course and I know it’s not a dead on comparison but it is similar in the sense that there’s a performance/moral risk that comes with upsetting the balance of a team.

thank you!
