Premier League Roundup - Laughing At Spurs

Elliot, Clive and Paul set aside humility and irony to laugh at Spurs for a while. Then they discuss Brighton/Palace, Leicester/Villa and the question of how many "big clubs" there are in the the league now. The feature section discusses Everton and comparing Ancelotti's performance with Arteta.

Agreed. Can see the headlines in five years: 'Crystal Palace sign up Real Madrid youngster for 90m in January window to save season'

Thanks so much! The obvious variable in all this would be the formation of a European super league. Ironically with money flowing out of other leagues and into the PL, it kind of becomes a super league by default. I’m not sure why any PL club would want to throw in with european clubs right now. We’d be doing them a favor frankly

Absolutely loved this episode! Elliot you always impress me with you vision on squadbuilding as you have the more US sports look at it. Players and managers performances are all a dependent on decent recruitment. So my question is, what is holding Arsenal back not to assign Nagelsmann but the Leipzig - or Ajax or BVB or Lille - recruitment team or DoF? Is it simple politics? KSE incompetent, just waiting if Edu and Mikel will do a job? If I was Mikel, I'd demand a DoF, as that job is way too big to do with one or two people, that are also very close to the team and weekly results. If Mikel wants success, he will need that five star recruitment team around him. Love to hear your view on this sometime on the pod. And why would'nt they come to us from Europe? The PL will be the NBA of football. Revenues so big even Palace will sign stars in a few years. Money is so big and so much quality, Im not surprise if a Leicester, Villa or those down the road - ouch - could win a title in now and ten years. Flipside of that is, we could well win it ourselves! Wish fans would talk less about Arteta - because its not helping our mood and he can be easily replace if he really messes up - but talk more about this. Because regarding squadbuilding, we have absolutely no excuses anymore. Thanks so much guys! More of this content if it were up to me :)

There’s a lot of talk about prioritizing the Europa league these days. The other English teams left in the competition don’t look to be struggling... can anyone imagine a worse situation then Baku ? I can...

Yeah that was super depressing.

Thanks!

Really interesting and insightful pod. Might be my favourite just after the Wenger memories after he was sacked.

There’s a NY Times article “Arsenal is Learning Nothing Lasts Forever” that really puts into perspective how wrong managerial appointments/player signings and more importantly not knowing when to cut ties and move on (think Elliot brought up sunk cost fallacy during the Nov/Dec bad period) has put us in the position.

*Whispers* yeah

Should Arsenal go for Nagelsmann?

There are really only three big clubs . Manchester Utd/Liverpool are interchangeable as 1and 2 and Arsenal are number 3 . Chelsea and Manchester City have purchased notoriety but it takes decades of success and a huge fan base to be considered big. Them two are second tier then Everton Villa Spurs Leeds.

Agreed

Tottenham ARE Shit!
