Squad Pod

So the squad building pod is finally coming and I’m happy to report that Ted Knutson, Arsenal fan and statsbomb founder, will be joining for a segment recording on Thursday. We will also have a decent chunk on transfer targets old and new. (Literally old in some cases)

Can’t guarantee we will get to a lot of questions but if you have some for that episode you can just leave them in the comments to this post or in the mail bag channel in discord.

Hey... we won the FA Cup 😃

I’m having that!

Would be great to hear Ted’s take on the Arsenal scouting and recruitment approach. The combination of agent-led, stats and the scouts eye and how we’re now really using one leg of that particular tripod.

Elliot I am willing to do a bet with you that Cedric will come good, Arsenal jersey if he does? If he doesn't, it's on me!! There is something there, we can't judge him on 3 games after an injury. Lets do it Elliot I dare you lmao

Hie guys love your pod I have a question: Arsenal last transfer brought in Tierney, martinelli, David luiz, Saliba et al. Also considering the loan moves that were made permanent (Cedric and Mari) why are we not acknowledging these movements? Cedric and Mari came in for almost nothing, isnt that smart? I know Elliot you speak highly of Cedric lol he needs time, we don't need world class players in every position i watched him he will come good, he will do a job when needed. Lastly Xhaka is no xavi but I would not sell him, he represents more than what he does on the pitch he has alot of heart we need that, I just feel his being asked to do what he can't, he needs someone around him in a midfield 3, is torreira our guy? I think we have something there

When do you think this will be released? I have a 2 hour drive coming up haha

Hi guys, who are some of the realistic targets we can pursue in defence, defensive midfield and attacking midfield?

Question, we seem to have elements of a mf between youth, and ceballos. How do u see th w wroth of a solid bid for Grealish, in terms of stats and gravitas

Not necessarily a question, but a suggestion. I would love for you to have Clive on when you talk to a Ted or Moe. I think him being a coach and his “youtubes” scouting would be an interesting interaction and Clive might have some good questions for them from another perspective.

Are we being too tough on Torreira? He's been injured, but during the bad man's reign, he was the guy and we all loved him. If the plan is to move to a back 4, he is probably the best player to play the deepest CM that covers the CBs. The recent game he was used like that, we were all gushing over him all over again. He is still young, and I think he has a role in this team, similar to AMN, but in the middle instead of at the wings.

What veteran players (28 or older) would you target for transfer/signing knowing we may be starting a decent chunk of young players next season (Saliba, Emile Smith, Reiss Nelson, Saka, Eddie)?

Hoping we hear both sides to the Willian deal as I'm anticipating bias from Ted and Elliot!

Can Arteta coach AMN to be a top quality DCM? He has all the required attributes

What are the % chances of AFC signing a player not mentioned, the day after the pod is released?

Joseph

I'd be interested to here Ted and the pod's thoughts on the global trend towards the 'Hendersonisation' of midfield. It now seems that running power and stamina is more important than skill and creativity. The era of Pirlo (and Ozil) is gone. I'm sad about this, but I'm wondering what it means for Arsenal's transfer plans. Are we looking for a runner, or a passer?

Which players of our current squad would you consider "keep at all costs". As much as it might seem like too valuable an asset to keep both Allen amd Martinez, why not have a season in which they both fight to be first choice before monetizing one of them?

Please can you ask for details about MY top transfer target who is the 22 year old AZ Alkmaar Captain Teun Koopmeiners. I know for a fact Arsenal have been in touch with his agent. He is a true leader in the mould of De Licht, a CDM who in 23 apps scored 11 goals as well.

In the past you’ve spoken about how we have a number of specialists (specifically in midfield) and in the last pod spoke about how dynamic players that allow you to switch tactics in game are likely the future of the sport given the advances in scouting and data. Given that we lack this dynamism in our midfield and clearly have a desperate need for creativity in the side, are there any players that come to mind that might bring both flexibility and creativity?

Legend has it Mustafi is still playing the fake guitar 🎸

How would Ted order the positions that need reinforcement this summer, starting from the most important?

I know it's been discussed a bit in the past, but if we can't reach a deal with PEA isn't there some real consideration for keeping him for a year and letting him go on a free? His value with the squad for next year would be huge both on the field and with the kids. And it would be even more if he could get us into top four, which would make up any money we might get for him if we sold him this year. And losing a 32 year old PEA is very different than some of the younger guys we've lost on a free.

Hi Arsenal Vision friends! What are Ted's thoughts on AMN? When interviewed after the cup win about playing LWB, Ainsley grinned widely and said he loved playing there (and playing anywhere the team needed him). This is clearly a visible attitude shift from a multi-faceted and talented player. Should he be a part of Arteta's future plans?
