AD-Free Episode 326 - Palace (h) - No Turning Back

Everyone sick of Crystal Palace yet?!

On this edition of the Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast, Elliot (@yankeegunner) is joined by Paul (@poznaninmypants) and Clive (@clivepafc) to discuss the quite remarkable scenes at the Emirates during the disappointing draw with Crystal Palace. The first half of the pod is a long discussion about the Xhaka substitution, the booing, and the player’s reaction. There’s a further discussion bout what it means for the player before that turns into a discussion about what it means for Unai Emery. Then there’s analysis of David Ornstein’s reporting regarding support for Emery at the club and the managerial candidates the club considered before hiring Emery. There’s a bit of a discussion about the 442 formation from the game and a look ahead to the Liverpool cup tie. All that and more on this edition of the Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast.

For extra context, the Palace fans let off a huge smokebomb after their second goal. I was right above them, and there was literally, a foul, acrid atmosphere in the ground (nine minutes before the substitution). Adding to frustration with the team. We were two-nil up, and it felt like we gave that moment to Palace, and it was humiliating.

Great post as always, every post has an excellent point. Elliot bringing the highlight to the fact that this is Xhaka's job and in the workplace you have a responsibility if you are in a public facing role. I'm an EMT, I have had people calling me out, squaring up to me whilst doing CPR...now I'm in uniform and I have to put on a fake smile or some sort of polite decline. Now put me in the same situation out of uniform???

I think why people are saying its abuse, is because its frequent and because its targeted. If it was a one off i dont think xhaka would of reacted like that.

Thanks for getting this out so quickly. Will we be able to get some insight from Tim about what it was like in the stadium at some point as well?
