2024 - New Year New Me

Hi everyone, hope your new year is turning out great!

I want to continue the tradition of making new year posts.
Last time, I shared my plans for 2023, namely:

I managed to complete all of those, but it didn't come without a hit to my upload schedule, with only four videos released that year. So let's talk about my plans for this year.

1. Support Assessment

First and foremost, consider answering this short question.

It's a multiple-choice grid meant to asses what you - my supporters - care about the most. I work on a few vastly different things and sometimes it's difficult to know what people expect from me. Some of you joined during Motion Canvas early access. Others come from my viral Pixel Art Animation video. Some have been here from the very beginning, and so on. This grid is meant to help me better understand the nature of your support. Thanks in advance for participating!

2. Upload schedule

I'll do my best to return to a monthly upload schedule. I have a video about Bevy's Scheduling System planned for later this month, and a Motion Canvas First Anniversary video planned for 4th February, followed by a new Astortion Devlog sometime in late February/early March.

But I'm not sure if monthly uploads are sustainable. Throughout the lifetime of my channel, I've followed the same path that most YouTubers have - I kept making increasingly more ambitious videos that took more and more time to make and raised the bar so high that I'm now uncomfortable with uploading something of lesser quality. I may use the tried and trusted solution of uploading more frequent, more relaxed videos to my second channel and reserving the main channel for more ambitious projects but we'll see how it goes.

3. Astortion Playtest

As I announced in my recent video, I want to start playtesting Astortion with you in March. We won't be using Steam since it's not really meant for early prototyping and requires the build of the game to be mostly finished/playable. Instead, I'll probably distribute the builds on Discord but I'll tell you more in due time.

4. Public Steam Demo

I'd like to have a fully playable, public demo up on Steam sometime in August. This is the soft deadline with the hard deadline being the end of this year. I'll be following the same strategy I used with Foundations - make the game releasable as soon as possible and then work incrementally from there. This way if the hard deadline hits I can safely release the game in whatever state it's in.
