To My Lolo

It's been two weeks since our Lolo (Grandfather), who raised us, passed away. I still find myself staring blankly and crying often. Honestly, I had stopped praying as much before, but since Lolo passed away, I’ve started praying every night again. I feel like it’s the only way I can connect with him now. Even though I can't talk to him like before, I know that he and God hear my prayers. I’m still not okay, but I’ll keep trying.

I made this drawing in honor of our Lolo, who raised us. Even though he wasn’t our biological grandfather, he was everything a real Lolo should be. He’s the only grandfather we’ve ever known, and I’m so grateful we had him in our lives.

The butterfly in my drawing has a special meaning:

-Before Lolo passed away that night, a black butterfly appeared and landed on me. A few minutes later, we got the call that Lolo was gone.

-On the day of Lolo’s funeral, while were waiting over 30 minutes in front of our house. A yellow butterfly flew by and landed again on me, and within two minutes, the marching band and Lolo’s carriage arrived (Filipino funeral tradition)

I’m not sure if all of this is just a coincidence but the timing of everything was incredible.

-Two days later after the funeral, I dreamed of Lolo he had a lovely smile, and then the place changed into a peaceful garden. I saw an orange butterfly and it flew again in my hand and when I touched it turned white.

after that dream, I suddenly felt a sense of peace, as if Lolo was telling me he was okay and that I should keep doing what I love.

So I drew this peace.

To My Lolo, I will always pray to God that if I have the chance to live again in the next life, I hope I can meet you all again.
