The way the LN/manhwa basically predicted these kinds of reactions lmao xD Realistically speaking, Jinwoo had no reason to join the raid other than to level up, which he himself says he usually would have if not for his mom having just woken up for a 4-year coma. By his own confirmation he found the S-ranks to be strong enough and technically they did win against the Queen ant, so he wasn't wrong in his judgement. Literally no one knew about the Ant King until they landed on the island. It's ridiculous to call Jinwoo an "egoist" when he even sent a few of his shadows with the S-ranks and the only reason Byun-gu didn't get one was cos he joined the raid last minute. Blaming Jinwoo for stuff happening outside of his control is just dumb lol.

They used to have all of the seasons up, so obviously, when they had to take them down, that was a big deal. I don't know if that's the reason they blur; they might’ve done it before, too 🤷🏻♀️

It's tough bc I think if you're only watching the anime it's unfair for someone to bring up characterization from the manhwa that doesn't exist in the anime. But also, we (generally) can tell more firmly about characters' actions and intentions bc of it...lol.

2025-03-17 08:11:58 +0000 UTCMy interpretation based on how Goto has been portrayed and the information we now know about him is that he didn't fully understand what the ant meant, but his well-inflated ego simply liked the sound of being "king" and thought it a fitting title for him, so he said yes. I believe he sees himself as the strongest and feels like that title, upon hearing it, is one he deserves. To be fair to him, he's probably used to having enough strength and experience to validate that kind of thinking up until now. Some of my reasoning: Goto was on the island for selfish reasons and was willing to sacrifice others in pursuit of his hidden agenda. He also showed a distinct lack of care for his fallen comrades by nonchalantly commenting that they were too weak, so at the very least I think I can say it wasn't a ploy to bide others time to escape.

He went to the training to gauge their strength and get an idea for what they could do, after seeing everything he saw he believed the other S-Ranks had this raid in the bag! Which as you just saw, they fully would have, if not for the singular unexpectedly strong ant, who was unfortunately born into existence the same day they pulled up to the island.

My interpretation was the Ant King wanted a King's head, a leader equal in status to the Ant Queen so it would be like an eye for an eye. And Goto was the leader of his guild, and the strongest of said guild. Without context, Goto assumed the Ant King was referring to that, which unfortunately caused the Ant King to see red.

But I guess that's a way to build an epic entrance to the main character hoping he saves the day. RIP Byung-gu u would have been a great history teacher O7.

The first time, he saw that his fellow ants were decapitated with Kenzo ripping their heads off, so he did that to them (with the final scene there all the heads that were taken off. Ants and hunters both. Then he learned what happened in the fight with the queen after devouring her, that's why he went for Cha Hae who dealt the killing blow first and was ready for the other attacks.

2025-03-16 14:51:32 +0000 UTCI also found it diabolical that they played Dark Aria during the scene of the Ant King straight up bossing the Korean S-ranks, almost like a villainous parallel to the Jinwoo 1v6 fight against Hwang Dongsuk's squad back in Season 1 (where he also met Jinho for the first time). Also reminder that we did see Jinwoo struggle quite a bit during his fight with the Baran, the Demon Monarch, and he's leveled up further since then. The question now is if the Ant King is even stronger than Baran hehe!

Carlie saying "at least he can't lay eggs" about the Ant King took me out xDDD Cha Hae-in channeled her inner Levi Ackerman this episode and we love to see it! The Ant King took out the Japanese hunters first because they were the ones sending out mana to draw out the ants outside, so at that time the only "enemies" the ants felt were the Japanese hunters. It went back into cave because of the Queen's cry (something Yoonho caught on). Someone already clarified it went after Cha first because eating the Queen's head helped him see her last memories. Speaking of, the Ant King is voiced by Akira Ishida, the same VA as Akaza from Demon Slayer. I was off my seat jumping for joy when I heard him speak. Goat VA choice right there! Can't wait for next week's episode. The finale is a week after, on 29th. You guys' reaction to Jinwoo's "Exchange" has me doubly hyped now, LFG!!!

I particularly loved the scene of Cha Hae-in landing those blows on the queen because it reminded me of any Levi attack scenes in AOT. Such smooth and crisp animation!

A couple of fun non-spoiler details - the Ant King figured out where Byung-Gu was by hitting the tank over and over and following the trail of healing magic. Jin-Woo didn’t come earlier because he was watching the broadcast, which had a ten-minute delay. He can’t directly communicate with his soldiers, but when moment the soldier in Goto’s shadow died, he realized things were getting bad fast and prepared to rock up via exchange.
