Rudy's behavior is cringey for SURE and I believe it's meant to be but that scene with Roxy never really struck me as an "Idk about this show" moment. It was more like, "Damn, they went there." That said, there will be at least one scene this season that will make you VERY uncomfortable. It's up to you at that point to decide if the rest of the show makes up for it.

Basically people that give up on society and become shut-ins, similar to subaru in Re:zero for example. In the context of Mushoku, without spoiling anything ahead. That was the funeral of someone from his family, which is implied at this point are who is tending to him (giving him food when he bangs around and demands for it, etc). And even then, once the person died, he kept holed inside his room masturbating instead of attending, so the other family members kicked him out.

Japan is a different culture and there are infinite amounts of anime way more over the line than Mushoku. This anime is actually very heartfelt and instropective over even those negative aspects.

Same thing with drugs, you grow up with parents on drugs, you either get on them yourself or break the cycle. Terrible experiences can create terrible people. As others have said, Rudy is written to so you are disgusted by him at first, but now he's been reincarnated he has a second chance. An opportunity to heal and change.

The people who beat him up were his brothers. He didn't attend the funeral and instead was.. umm.. you know.., that was a line crossed for them so they kicked him out. 2- About Frieren being inspired, I'm not sure specifically, but almost all isekai stories, especially Light Novels, draw heavy inspiration from MT. It was one of the first who popularized the genre in the LN space and setup the tropes and explored isekai story telling. It's also a big series with (24?) volumes. 3- Its "Roxy" not "Foxy" lmao. Picturing Foxy from Long Ring Long Land teaching magic was funny

Generally, anything that you see like this are more Dungeons and Dragons/Dragon Quest styled worlds with dungeons and stuff. More of your Record of the Lodoss War, Grimgar, Mahoujin Guruguru type anime.

(Sucks though because there’s literally no way I would be able recommend this show to anyone I know 😅)
