i mean killing people remotely is like what Lucy does in the movie Lucy. The idea is that a super mind (100% of the brain) is cosmically powerful and able to quantumly manipulate different spaces. I dont think the story needs to ungodify Hiro relative to humans. As hiro said, he can end the planet if he wanted to by launching all nukes simultaneously. I think the author took a lag here and found a lazy lil way for the antagonist to up the body count more before the final showdown.

We've been shown that the super hearing thing can be turned on or off. Bad guy could hear his friend yelling for help, if he were listening for people yelling for help - but does he seem like the kinda guy who'd do that? The friend probably thought he's safe when yelling for help because he figured his friend wouldn't be listening like that. The friend realizing so quickly that bad guy probably wasn't going around curing cancers can probably be chalked up to him knowing him well enough to predict that too.
The shooting people through a TV thing is very silly, but it's also pretty cool, I'll go with "rule of cool" and accept it. I have no clue how it would work, but "sufficiently advanced technology can do any magic" (to misquote Arthur C. Clarke) so I'm sure someone could figure out a way it could work if they spent long enough.
