AoT Finale Early Access Chapter 1 "The Rumbling"

I have no idea when this will slot into my Tier 1 anime reactions (it'll be in between one series ending and another beginning at some point), but no reason for us in early access to have to wait, right?

Chapter 2 will post the next time I have spare 2-3 gigs left on a Sunday. (This ends up happening most weeks so maybe as soon as next week)

Also, here's the intro with my predictions: https://youtu.be/QWJNOXAYMe4

Oh yes you're right, that's totally the same kid. Interesting

That second rationale makes a lot of sense and I really like it

I thought of a few more things I want to comment on- regarding Annie, I’m thinking that even without the “ship” with Armin, she would still be done fighting, mostly because she believes her father is dead already, so she no longer has a personal motivation/stake in it- though wanting to spend her remaining time living “peacefully” may have been influenced a little by Armin talking to her in that crystal all those years. Also, the kid at the beginning of the episode that Eren rescued (only for him to be seen crushed later in the rumbling) seems to be the same one from episode 28 that was pickpocketing, tried to steal Sasha’s purse and ended up with Levi’s money after they helped him. I think (though I could be wrong) it’s implied that Eren tearfully apologizing to him happened right before Mikasa found him after they noticed he was no longer at the Azumobito estate with everyone else, then everyone else showed up and they had their last hurrah with Eren and these people he knows he’s going to kill later smh

My understanding of the “future memories” is that it’s like a closed loop- though I think Eren was looking for proof that what he had seen could change, like when he asked what Sasha’s last word was, I think part of his reaction was despair because it happened just as he had seen it- and with asking Mikasa the question about what he is to her in episode 28. Eren’s longing for freedom, but he’s a slave to the future that he’s already seen happen it seems. And on the topic of the “freedom” he seeks, what we hear from him at the beginning of this episode is that a big part of his starting the rumbling is not solely to save the island, but because he was disappointed with the reality of the outside world compared to what he read about in Armin’s books as a kid- very messed up, like he hasn’t really grown up and is clinging to that childish ideal, and destroying the world because it didn’t live up to his expectations.
