2023-02-01 09:59:42 +0000 UTCThe alternating use of first and last names trips me up a bit in some anime that I’ve watched, I’ve had to backtrack and/or Google characters to try and keep them straight or assure myself that I’m thinking of the right character when they’re referred to while not shown. Attack on Titan wasn’t bad in that respect because they mostly use just the first names (though I did see a reactor get tripped up in season 3 episode 13 when Erwin referred to Armin as Arlert since he forgot that was his last name lol) and we spend a lot of time with most of the characters. If you ever watch Jujutsu Kaisen (which was one of the worst ones for me, maybe that and Blue Exorcist, though I’ve watched that one so many times now I’ve got the characters all set), you may want to have a notepad just for character names, especially since some of the characters are related and share a last name lol

2023-02-01 03:41:25 +0000 UTCSenpai is a Japanese term often used to refer to someone who is a mentor and/or a senior or long standing member of a group, or perhaps a respected upperclassman in a school setting, and a lot of times they don’t translate it since there isn’t necessarily an exact single word for it in English
