Vinland Saga Early Access Episodes 13 and 14

This show excels at taking only a single episode to make you feel for a character. This is hard to do and they make it look effortless.

That's interesting about the different languages. As for eye color ... I'm the world's biggest failure when it comes to noticing eye color in real people or fictional characters. I NEVER know what anybody's eye color is. There's something about it that ... I dunno. I've always had to be told to notice it. Other people can meet a mofo once and be able to recite their eye color two years later. Witchcraft.

A few other things I just remembered I wanted to comment on- in that ambiguous scene that ended up being a flashback of Askeladd, I don’t think the audience is supposed to necessarily immediately guess that it was Askeladd (it is cleared up in the same episode though), but one clue for me that it wouldn’t be Thorfinn was the eye color- Thorfinn has brown eyes, and the kid in the flashback has blue. There are multiple blond characters in this show, so I think it’s easy to get thrown off/confused until they clear it up. Also, the way they handled different languages being spoken could have maybe been done better/differently. Listening to the original Japanese when you don’t speak Japanese is one thing, but in the English dub, they did the same thing, where it’s all English, and you have to conclude from context/dialogue that another language is being spoken, and be told straight up when certain characters don’t know what’s being said. Sounds kind of silly, especially for instance in scenes like in episode 7 where Thorfinn had that interpreter guy between him and the French general, and they’re all speaking English with the interpreter repeating back everything that was just said in English lol

Episode 14 wrecked me

Episode 14 is a masterpiece- and I think you’re right that it was designed to drag the viewer back to the reality of who Askeladd and/or what this world has always been, just in case you were starting to get comfortable and possibly sympathetic with Askeladd and his group
