Pretty Colors

Hey guys, you may have noticed I'm trying something new!

So for the last year~ I've been slightly unsatisfied with my work basically just being sketches. I kind of enjoyed the old days when I could put a lot of work into a big sequence and color it. It pops in peoples feed more and colors fun to do.

I know a lot of people are just fine with sketches (and I don't hate them or anything), but I figured there had to a simple and quick way to color stuff so it didn't bloat my workload trying to color everything.

The last 2 posts I made you can see me experimenting with trying to color stuff, but I actually think it didn't look very good because I was doing a very rushed version of my normal color method. I actually like my normal coloring method, but it takes hours/days to do and really only comes together in the final few steps. Speeding through it made them look a bit too loose for my tastes.

So I grabbed some watercolor brushes and decided to just paint like I used to in the really old days. I think it came out great! :V

Let me know what you think of the new style vs the sketches, and if any of these pictures in particular pop out as looking great - I actually tried a lot of different techniques on all of them, so none of them are using the exact same style. Trying to find which one looks the best.

Comment with any feedback you have on this stuff! :B

Check them all out with PSD's on OneDrive, if that's your preference, here.

I like to credit people whose characters I drew or that helped at all so here's a quick list for this one:

Redacted: helped with the text on 'Inconvient Gains', 'Redicorn' (which he also stars in), 'Best in Show', and 'Lost and Found'.
Sharkrags: I used his characters Olli and Evan in 'Olli Olli' and 'Pompadour Down'.
Valsalia: wrote the text on 'This is Fine' where I used his characters Elim and Kass, and Kass again in 'Kassen Akoll'.
Changeling Tale: the green dog Rhoswen in 'Feelin Green' is a character from the game.
Carp: owns Regys the fox from 'Round One'.
Coffee Buns: where Leo in 'Strawberry Flavored' is featured.

Late stage Kass is a fun idea :B

Wat

Kass being comfortable as his yinglet self is always fun. Also, I like the style of coloring on these - then again I'm a sucker for traditional media or digital art that emulates traditional media.

Vicroc4

I'll see you in court, yinglets don't make good lawyers :V

Wat

I demand royalties for exactly two of these

Val Salia

Thanks, Maku! :B

Wat

Kullax

Sorry Noc, I don't laugh at anything you say so I didn't recognize it as a joke. :V

Wat

Awesome, I liked it enough I think I'll keep doing it too! :B

Wat

If you can't be happy with the collars you get, you'll have none next time! :V

Wat

10,11,13 and 14 stuck out as nice to me, sorta dreamlike, but I also liked those forms a lot and I'm a sucker for a story. Overall really like the watercolour style though regardless!

Scotch

I give you the perfect setup for a crayon eating joke and you squandered it. Sad

Nocturn3

Pretty colours! Not enough collars

Kullax

Awesome, thanks for the feedback! :B

Wat

Yes, until this moment, no one had any idea! :V

Wat

Might be doing them more regularly! :B

Me too, it was a successful experiment I think!

Wat

They did turn out a bit pretty :B

The colors look good, especially in 1 and 5. I also really like the "sharpness" of the eyes in 5 and 13, compared to some of the others. Good stuff :)

I’ve been called out!!

REDACTED

Your speedpaints from back in the day were what first drew my eye and demonstrated to me your exceptional talent as an artist! While I also love the sketches and sequences you've done since, seeing an element of those speedpainting days return is a treat! Well done, these look really nice and artistic!

Little Napoleon

The colouring is so vibrant and beautiful! Top quality work!
