Hello gamers. I wanted to provide some information on modding, XXMI, and some fixes for issues you may be having at the moment. This information is up to date for Genshin version Luna IV, HSR 3.8, and ZZZ 2.5. I will update this post as needed. Please note that the older a Genshin mod is, the more likely it is to be difficult to update. Please be wary of when a mod is uploaded as they can contain many errors.
BASIC MODDING TOOLS:
XXMI: XXMI is extremely easy to setup and very useful for consolidating modding in general. I would highly recommend downloading and using the framework at the very least. It has no current issues with HSR and ZZZ, and although it may have some issues with Genshin it is still incredibly useful for making sure all dependencies are updated. You can find it HERE. This is a tutorial on how to install mods with XXMI HERE.
GIMI and the Illegal tool error: Some people have been getting the illegal tool error when modding Genshin through XXMI. Although I don't believe it has resulted in any bans, it does result in being unable to play for longer than 5 minutes without getting kicked out. These are the (temporary) fixes that people have found that I've listed from my most to least recommended.
Option 1: Continue to use XXMI and replace the new dll with the old one. You can follow the tutorial for how to do so HERE!
Option 2: Continue to use XXMI and use the more advanced launch script. It is basically runs the same as the previous version, except it requires more setup, but it is more convenient to use. Follow the tutorial HERE!
Option 3: For Genshin specifically, revert back to classic GIMI. This is personally my least recommended as you will have to update all the dependencies for each mod on your own.
MOD FIXING TOOLS:
Make sure you don't have duplicate character mods (multiple versions of a mod) OR overlapping character mods (mods that affect the same object/character)
Check to see if Dynamic Character Resolution is turned OFF. This can be found in your settings and has been known to occasionally be switched on between updates. Mods WILL break if this setting is not toggled off.
If only part of your mod is loading, first try to go off the character, reload mods, then teleport somewhere far away (while not using the character). This can sometimes fix issues as it helps the game render.
If your mod is off-color in a lightmap way (usually greens, black, pink on metal) try following THIS TUTORIAL (usually affects character models pre-Sumeru)
If your mod is off-color in a normalmap way (usually monotone with some weird rainbow bits) try following THIS TUTORIAL.
If the issue persists or you have other issues. There have been a couple weight, hash, and other mod issues that have developed as the game has updated. Try using THIS tool.
If you are still having issues, i.e weird textures showing up, or flashing on plants and trees, submit an issue thread in the discord!
