[SD:FS] New Player Forums - Chapter 1

(SoulDive’s official Forum, Starter Town Drama Thread)

BertVurn, DesDose, Filegreen, FeltFelt, InkyCat, JillPill, JuneSupport, KarmaMaxer, KillTheKrill, May/Hem, No2Ways, QwertyWarrior, Vibez420, Zap2to2Zap

Zap2to2Zap: Always exciting when a new batch of players is dropped on a town.

InkyCat: As if we weren’t those same new players not that long ago.

Zap2to2Zap: I didn’t cause any drama. Just a simple build with a focus on magic.

BertVurn: Weren’t you going random?

Zap2to2Zap: Yep, but that doesn’t mean you magically get a broken species to play around with or anything.

JillPill: Well, I certainly caused a ruckus. Wasn’t anything too special, but walking down the street to the trainers had people stopping me and asking if I wanted to join them or not. I swear every step took minutes. Though that was the better choice to trying to ignore them.

InkyCat: That from seeing it or hearing about it? Because I keep hearing people say you can’t be rude, but no one around my starter town has done it. Mostly because of the rumors.

JillPill: Oh, I saw it! The next group after mine had someone try it. I was still in the town, running errands when the streets became jam-packed. Couldn’t move! Anyway, the new players walked by with the interesting ones getting the harassment I was familiar with. Except some idiot ignored them and tried to just push his way through the town.

JillPill: Guy was some sort of sword fanatic and wanted to get training. Made it to the trainers in a record time. Except none of the good trainers would touch him with a ten-foot pole. Then once he got trained, he wasn’t able to get any good quests and so on and so forth. Like, the nobles and guilds run the cities. If you snub them in such a simple matter, they’re going to snub you right back, only so much worse. Guy rerolled last I heard. Especially when he found out the gate guards weren’t going to let him leave without a pass from the adventurer’s guild. Which is a bit hard to get when you can’t find any quests beyond note passing and package delivering.

BertVurn: That sucks!

DesDose: Double sucks!

BertVurn: Hey! Dose! You need to chat more. I know you have this whole thing with only responding if you can say something involve the number two, but come on! Be a little looser.

No2Ways: Leave him be. Everyone needs a defining bit to stand out or you’re just another newb.

No2Ways: Anyway, my town had a bit of fun. New batch of players arrived and among the randoms there was a couple pre-aligned. One even managed to escape! Though this was a few days ago already. They must have done something out in the newb forest because for about a day afterwards, the bosses that normally guard the way into the deeper forest areas seemed to vanish.

KillTheKrill: Oh hey! We’re in the same city. If I remember correctly, your a magic user looking into countering stuff and cc? Want to team up later? I’m a melee dps and my childhood friend managed to wind up in the same place as well and they’re a magitank. Having a counter mage would increase their survivability. Oh, and you can never have too much cc if you’ve got the basics already covered.

No2Ways: Really? Most of the people in the city turn their nose up at my build. They just want people who fit in a tight little box. “What? You’re a mage but don’t know fire dart? What good are you?” I actually branched out into cc because I thought that would get me a party.

KillTheKrill: The idiots. I would have asked you to join without the cc, but add that in? Top tier S+++ quality build! Sure, it doesn’t fit in an old school trinity box, but this isn’t some ancient MMO.

JuneSupport: A moment, did you (No2Ways) say that the bosses vanished? Did that cause any problems? I’d feel bad about that.

No2Ways: Why would you feel bad if you didn’t cause it?

May/Hem: June! You’ve got a way with naming yourself on the forum. It’s me, Gem! Oh, and No2Ways, it was the both of us that caused the disappearance. I got chased up a tree and found her already up there. Then we ran and ended up with a bit of a monster train, but managed to not run it into anyone or any towns. We even road a boar demiboss around for a while!

JuneSupport: I should have guessed that was you.

KillTheKrill: Wait, that means May/Hem is an unchained! And that you managed to escape the newb restrictions!

No2Ways: Don’t worry JuneSupport, a few idiots died, but they were the type to challenge the bosses on their own. No clue where that monster train went though. You two might be the only people still allowed on this thread who aren’t stuck around their starting city.

May/Hem: Speaking of starter city, what was the name of ours?

JuneSupport: Sigh, you literally have a recall scroll with the name. You started in the City of a Thousand Fountains. Though you really shouldn’t spread that around. You might have gotten away from the recruiters, but that won’t stop people from other places sending people.

May/Hem: Meh, we aren’t going back there in the first place. Least not before we’re past the point of recruiting. Besides, I’m chaotic! Not exactly a stable guild member.

KillTheKrill: They’ll take disposable loose cannons just as much as a dependable lawful type.

Alison: Guess who just joined!

May/Hem: Oh, it’s you.

Alison: You went Random! What happened to your “no random” stance you wishy washy little fish.

May/Hem: Sigh, hey JuneSupport, meet the annoying person who almost made me not go random just put of spite.

JuneSupport: Having seen you jump out of a tree onto a giant turtle multiple levels higher than us and then duel it one on one with just one spell? I doubt whether you went random or not would have changed the outcome. You simply got to the end point ahead of time.

May/Hem: Maybe...

Alison: Haha! You went Random!

JuneSupport: No maybe about it. While you can’t always predict if someone will lock in one alignment or another. The extremes tend to stick out even to start with you.

JuneSupport: Alison, stop or we’ll report you.

Alison: sticks tongue out Sucks to suck! Had to take my advice despite trying to deny it. Random is love, Random is life!

ADMIN: This is your only Warning Alison. Cool off and we’ll see how you act tomorrow when you can post again.

No2Ways: Anyway, where’d the turtle come from? I thought you got the drop on a boar? Or did you catch a ride some other way?

JuneSupport: The turtle came at the end of that day and it wasn’t a demiboss. Besides, I doubt even a demiboss turtle could outrun a demiboss deer.

No2Ways: Nods, you aren’t wrong. I wonder where they went?

May/Hem: I bet they got lost and ended up deeper in the forest. Because if they had gone straight, they would have slammed right into the city or at least passed by closely enough to be noticed.

KillTheKrill: The city would have noticed no matter what. I wonder if someone knows about it? Shame this thread is only for new players. Someone who decided to go into politics might know more.

No2Ways: I didn’t see anyone in the town hall looking worried and I was there most of the day handing in a bunch of repeatable harvest quests.

KillTheKrill: They wouldn’t have been worried. If a new player can escape the stampede, the monster train never had a chance to even get close to the wall, let alone breach it.

May/Hem: That was my thought!

KillTheKrill: You're lucky they didn’t have to do anything. They’ve got people who could track it back to you. It is not legal to lead a monster train to a city.

May/Hem: Eh, I wasn’t planning ongoing back any time soon. They’d have forgotten by that time.

KillTheKrill: They wouldn’t wait for you to return. A skilled sniper would deliver you back to the city unless you managed to find a new respawn point.

May/Hem: Eh, life happens. I’d just figure it out as things happened.

No2Ways: Wait wait wait, have the locals done that?

KillTheKrill: Yep, it wasn’t in Newb Fountains though. Hey, @InkyCat! Story time.

InkyCat: It isn’t much of a story, Krill. Some idiot thought it was fun to skip reading “banditry for idiots” and went right to trying to stake out the main way into our city. It wasn’t even an assassin who did it. The city had one of their best bowman shot them from the gate. Which is impressive considering the player was hidden a couple miles away in a dense thicker.

InkyCat: There was a sharp whistle that barely lasted before moving too far away to be heard. Then after the newb shortened respawn timer ticked down, they respawned right in the middle of a group of guards. Suffice it to say, they didn’t make it far.

May/Hem: That sucks. Glad I didn’t suffer something like that. Though speaking of sucking, I’ve got to dip. Chat later!

{May/Hem has logged off}

JuneSupport: Ditto, we’re doing something in the village and it should be about time.

{JuneSupport has logged off}

InkyCat: Huh, my story wasn’t boring enough to drive them off? Right?

KillTheKrill: Nah, it should be about dawn where we are in SD. In fact, @No2Ways, let’s both dip as well. I’ll meet you by the quest board.

{KillTheKrill has logged off}

{No2Ways has logged off}

InkyCat: Anyone else going to leave because of my simple presence?

FeltFelt: Nah, we’re just going to ghost yah!

InkyCat: Funny! Anyway, about the fact they managed to pull the demibosses away from the deeper forest boundary. Anyone think that could be replicated?

...

InkyCat: Umm, guys?

...

InkyCat: Anyone? Mind answering?

...

InkyCat: Okay, this is getting silly!

{InkyCat has logged off}

...

InkyCat: Ahah! I see you posting!

InkyCat: Oh, no one was posting.

{InkyCat has logged off}

...

FeltFelt: Okay, they’re gone. So, what do you all think about pulling the demibosses?

Filegreen: You do realize they’ll be able to read this later? Hell, they might be reading it right now. Just because you’re logged off, doesn’t mean you can’t view this thread. Newbs don’t get free private threads.

FeltFelt: Eh, unimportant. What is important is figuring this out.

KarmaMaxer: What would be the point? The bosses aren’t there to guard treasure. They’re idiot roadblocks.

FeltFelt: Duh! The bosses are tough, but their minions are only a bit higher than the regular outer monsters. Draw the boss away and you can kill all those exp loot bags!

Zap2to2Zap: Eh, not worth it. By the time you can easily kill them, you’re going to be close to getting your pass to leave the vicinity of the city. Better to use the time setting that up to instead be heading towards a place with the gear you’ll need. Starter towns might have higher level sorts for protection, but that doesn’t mean the gear kicking around is going to be worth your time.

FeltFelt: Meh, boring. I’m going to go and try it.

Zap2to2Zap: Shrug, it’s your death.
