[D'sP] The Full Status - Chapter 384

Two months have passed since the quest portals had opened all across the world and there was once again a worldwide system announcement.

{After one day, no more people will be able to enter the quest

For the next three days, those trapped may request an evacuation which will extract them from the dungeon with only what they brought in with them if still available to them

In five days, the portals will close and everyone still in the quest will be stripped of everything and ejected}

Ace, “Huh, well, that’s one way to handle things. Interesting to know that there was a possibility of people getting stuck in there.”

Jim, who had been visiting to talk over getting more guild employees besides the four ladies, shrugs. “With all the decaying infrastructure it wouldn’t be hard to fall into a hole or have something dropped on you. That and the possibility of foul play. Though anyone that was planning on using that to secretly off someone is going to be annoyed.”

Ace nods, “It would have been the perfect chance to have someone die and yet be able to say you didn’t kill them without triggering truth spells. Though it would be a bit hard to set up, if only because ‘setting it up’ would likely mean they were the cause.”

Jim, “Anyway, speaking of the quest, how has the processing of all that loot gone?”

Ace sighs, “About as good as could be expected. They use runes in a lot of the stuff and we don’t have the cultural understanding to figure it out. Though it doesn’t help that some runes have clearly been removed, likely any of them that might reveal something personal about the fallen civilization.”

Jim rolls his eyes, “Either the system or dungeon was a little too thorough for my taste. Isn’t this the point in a story where some protagonist manages to find a well-hidden book detail that civilizations fall?”

Ace laughs, “But you already found the prehistoric stuff. Didn’t even leave a single thing for others to pick up from what I heard.”

Jim scoffs, “That was some good stuff, but also clearly an attempt to get around some sort of limit. What we want if the journal missed by the system entirely.”

Ace, “Maybe I should take a quick walk in there to see how lucky I am? Who knows? Maybe I’ll stumble upon some ancient treasure trove.”

Jim nods, “And within that collection of ancient scrap made new there is one of those spirit grandpas in a random piece of jewelry! They’d promise to teach you everything they know about earth magic only to end up sacrificing themselves to save you from some outside force.”

Ace, “And of course I’d end up shouting ‘Grandpa’ like I’m hanging over a pit and down a hand, only to be worked away at the last second.”

Jim, “And that ring would still be the strongest artifact ever. Though more seriously, have we truly not figured out anything? I’d figure that Ruby would have fidgeted something interesting out of the mess.”

Ace shakes his head, “I wouldn’t say we found nothing. That formula for the quartz bricks is interesting. We just don’t have enough properly sized quartz to use it right now, but it is an option for the future.

“And speaking of quartz, should have seen it coming, but those damn cables are made of the stuff as well. Ruby figures they used magic to treat quartz with the polymer and managed to make the stuff not only flexible, but able to turn Mana into a liquid. I suspect we’ll be a bit stuck on the cables for a while. I’m thinking they might have just had giant quartz crystals that they processed into cables.”

Jim sighs, “We’ll just have to throw some into the dungeon and see what happens.”

Ace, “Yep, at least until we figure out how to shape quartz like we do wood and regular stone. There is just something about crystals that don’t like flowing. Maybe the polymer will help with that? Meh, Ruby will figure it out.

“Oh, besides that we’ve got a few interesting things to work with. I hope that we can figure out how they turned Mana into electricity. While we didn’t focus on it, I know that quite a few people have been salvaging pre-system appliances. If we could develop a dependable power source, at the very least we might salvage some information from what computers are left.”

Jim shakes his head, “With how magic gets into things, I would hold much hope that the SSDs will hold much information. Maybe some proper disks will be viable? Even before magic, cosmic radiation could just flip random bits in a computer at random. With magic? I’m guessing that bringing any pre-system style data storage solutions into a higher world energy environment than the material it was crafted from is going to result in rampant errors and aggressive bit rot.”

Ace raises an eyebrow, “That was a bit more technical than I expected from you.”

Jim shrugs, “I worked tech support for a bit. Anyway, I’d just love to get some proper refrigeration going on. Whether that involves using magic derived electricity to power a pre-system refrigerator or directly using magic.

“As it is, we have a couple people at the guild who basically just laze around all day and occasionally renew a chilling spell on our perishables storage room. I don’t have better things for them to do than keep our food safe to eat, but if they weren’t needed for that I certainly have a million and one other almost as vital tasks that need doing.”

Ace, “Right now, we have more than a few duplicates and are basically waiting on the quest to end. Now, this is just a guess by Doctor, but chances are the quest reward will involve dungeons around the world. Everyone has at least one dungeon in their local community, pointing to how much importance the system places on them. Besides that, every single one of them drops some kind of food and that is not normal.

“With that in mind, I personally suspect that what the dungeon can drop will expand to include some of these things. If I’m wrong, we can toss a few spare devices in and see what happens. Though our dungeon will probably have a leg up on most of the others. After all, going by those golems, it already has access to quartz.”

Down in the dungeon, Doyle turns to Ally, ‘Is it possible that the quest will end up giving me patterns?’

Ally nods, ‘It isn’t out of the question. I know that their guess about dungeons with food drops is correct. While not exactly bandied about, it is known that all dungeons next to a system settlement placed by integration will have food. This isn’t something a normal person would realize as if a dungeon can drop food, a settlement will end up built around it. The logistical advantage of having basically a pocket farm is too great to give up.’

Doyle, ‘Fair. Though I guess instead of people watching, I should get to handling my paths. Don’t want to put that off until it is too late.’

Ally, ‘Yep, the system rarely warns you ahead of time for stuff like this if it didn’t provide a specific time limit in the first place. It’s treating the newly integrated with kid’s gloves. Now, instead of just checking your paths, how about you pull up your status as a whole and we’ll see what there is to see? Oh, and all the miscellaneous stuff as well.’

Doyle nods and pulls it up.

They take a while to read it all, especially with the extra information panel after the paths. Ally is the first to speak up, though only to request more information. ‘Pull up your stats per level. While you have about an even spread of current stats, I’m sure you’ve got at least one you’re specializing towards.’

{Stat Gain Per Level

Strength:8, Agility:16, Constitution:10

Intelligence:10, Wisdom:24, Presence:8

Destiny:13, Karma:31, Luck:17}

Ally nods, ‘Yep, just look at how much Wisdom and Karma you’ll be gaining next level.’

Doyle, ‘What does that mean for me going forward?’

Ally, ‘You have an excellent base of per level gains across the board. So at this point, you’ll want to focus a bit more. In particular, you’ll want to prioritize a specific category of stats. Right now you would be categorized as having a finesse focus, you’re just missing a bigger investment in Agility. Though compared to the other body stats, you could count as having done so to a lesser degree.

‘On the other hand, instead of focusing on the power, finesse, and specialty divide; you could go with the more obvious body, mind, and spirit. Right now your Karma stat has the lead and so boosting Destiny and Luck would do it for you.

‘In particular, you’ll probably want to get more Luck no matter what because of that child of fortune out in the town. You’ll never match her, but reducing what nonsense she can pull in here will only ever be beneficial for us.’

Doyle, ‘It isn’t a choice. While I won’t go for it alone, I will be focusing on finesse. It’s who I am.’

Ally raises an eyebrow, ‘That had more than a little bit of conviction behind it.’

Doyle nods, ‘There is a reason I got that trinity path. I need a balance between all three parts of myself. While I would prefer to be a jack of all trades when it comes to stats and really balance things, I can understand why that isn’t possible. So, if I have to choose, I’ll go with being in control. I lived my life until the system, being unable to control my situation. So now that I have the chance, I won’t let it slip through my fingers.’

Ally smiles, ‘But wouldn’t power do the same? And specialty! There are so many odd things that you can do if you focus on it.’

Doyle, ‘I’ll take all the power I can control, but that’s the key, isn’t it? A berserker might be able to draw out more strength than a disciplined fighter, but is it really theirs in the end? As for specialties?

‘There was a comic series about four characters that got turned into superheroes. At the start, they all had problems controlling their powers, but eventually they managed it. Except for the one guy who turned into a rock covered being. He was stuck like that and it caused never ending problems for him.

‘Yet the fire guy in that team could change between human form and a form that was basically a humanoid fire elemental. They got their powers from the same source, so why could one turn back and the other couldn’t? Now, obviously in a comic book, this is to create strife and problems for the characters to overcome. But if those people showed up here, I wouldn’t be surprised if the rock guy had oodles of Constitution, but comparatively little Agility.’

Ally, ‘That is an interesting way of looking at it and I won’t say you’re wrong. However, it is important to remember what you’ve seen in your monsters’ stat specializations. It is entirely possible that the rock guy would have equal amounts of both or maybe even more Agility over the other. Instead of it being a lack, whatever had changed him might have only altered the Constitution while Agility was mostly left alone.

‘Being able to do the splits and navigate an obstacle course doesn’t inherently grant you any control over an altered form. Besides, it might be that he would need more mental or soul stats to control things. Instead of an imbalance within the body, it could be an imbalance between the body and the mind or soul.’

Doyle nods, ‘There is really no way for us to tell. It might honestly be fixed with a Path than anything to do with stats. For me, though, I see my path forward. Agility, Wisdom, and Karma fit what I want and it isn’t like I’m going to neglect the other stats. They’re all important.’

Quintessence debt too high. Chapter 187 7 floors deep Debt 82.61 floors 8-16 9 floors -45 debt. So 37.61 without other repayments.

Celas

Yeah that what i was thinking/feeling :) that it was one of your notes formated a bit to be put in a chapter xD

Zarik0

Whoops, I thought I had removed all the chapter references. Believe it or not, but this is basically just a copy paste of my notes with the meta info filed off. Also of note, I don't count the status panel towards the chapters word count.

Akhier Dragonheart

Noice to have his full statue to read at this point :) "10 Automate 3rd floor (ch283, bag of holding loot slowly siphons space from floors growth until it has enough)" 'ch283' Fourth Wall breaking :PPP

Zarik0

I'll also note that this is more common with sapient and nearly sapient beings as they are the least likely to fully change into something else.

Akhier Dragonheart

You did not and this is mostly because unlike the goat, wolf, and so on variants; the kobolds variants inherit from the regular kobold. In my notes, I even short cut listing out the skills by noting that they just have all the kobold skills and build on top of that. This isn't comparing Huskies to Poodles, which despite being the same species are recognized as different in a similar way that a wind wolf and a stone wolf are different. On the other hand, I would more compare void kobolds to astronauts (quite appropriately). They aren't kobolds+, they're kobolds plus training, though with how monsters work that training is inherited. For void kobolds specifically, they have access to the skills 3D Movement and Pressure Sensitivity and specifically require that second one. While a kobold can be born as a void kobold and there would even be some physical adaptions built in, any kobold that gains Pressure Sensitivity and visits somewhere with the void being a present danger as well as either a microgravity or no gravity, they are likely to become a void kobold. Now, there will be a pattern for the elderly kobold variant he will get as a reward for the quest. Same as how the assassin vine and elder assassin vine have their own entries. Getting to this point, I realize it would be easier to say that the difference is that to get their own pattern, there needs to be an actual evolution of the creature. Going from an assassin vine to an elder assassin vine is a fundamental change. I just had to step away and while I was doing that other thing, a good comparison came to me. If you know pokemon, then the various elemental variants and such are like regional variants. The changes into completely new forms such as going from lesser to normal or aging up a category is like evolution. And finally the difference between kobolds and void kobolds is like a difference in nature or know an egg move not normally available.

Akhier Dragonheart

Wanted to ask if I missed the kobold variants in the creature list, or where they missing?

Fritz Callam

That is actually correct. Unlike normal paths, class paths build upon themselves. So the ten points in ADC II count towards ADC III, thus 10/100 and since he hasn't put any points into III, it has not been started.
