[NR] The Technology Would Understand - Chapter 526

Courtney didn’t really get why that cycle specifically was so informative. Because yeah, five different cycles, but that is just something you can figure out with time.

Jason smiled, “Why is it informative? Because the cycle isn’t perfect. Metal collects water? Sure, water condenses on the stuff and what not, but that isn’t like a fire burning a tree to ash and literally making more earth. So if you can find a cycle of powers which feed into one another, it doesn’t matter if outside things push it forward. All that matters is the metaphysical elements involved lining up. I don’t think I’ve told either of you, so Rosha, come over here. I’ve got a little more to inform you of which I can actually tell you in NeoRealm.”

Rosha takes a moment to finish up what she was doing and then Courtney catches her up on what they had been talking about. Rosha, of course, had questions about it and about her own duo of powers since there isn’t really much room for a cycle.

Jason shrugged, “Eh, having two or even one power is fine. In my last life that was the default expectation. All you’ll need to do is focus on keeping them balanced. Sure, you can find a cycle within two, but you can also go with opposing forces that balance out like yin and yang.

“Anyway, I don’t remember if I revealed this or at least hinted at the fact, but I cultivate three powers. Not only that, but the System recognizes it within NeoRealm. I actually have bonuses based on how well I understand the three. [Substance], [Civilization], and [Ascendence].”

Courtney frowns, “Can elements like that even form a cycle? Not only are they abstract, but they’re not the most connected from what I can see.”

Jason, “And that is a good lesson to take away. You can’t always see what others see. I view it as an interconnected system and while it isn’t quite at the level of if you can imagine it, it works. Things are at the point where if you can justify it properly to yourself, it should work. Though I must admit, I figured you would ask about why the words sounded strange.”

Rosha answers for Courtney. “I don’t think either of us know what that is? However, we have heard it before. I was actually about to ask about it after you finished answering her question.”

Jason smirks, “Well, okay, what’s your question?”

Rosha fixes him with a glare. “I guess you don’t want to know where we heard it?”

Jason shrugs, “Eh, it was probably from whoever you got as a tutorial guide. I don’t like to assume I’m some sort of protagonist and so since my performance got mine to share their name? Well, neither of you are much worse off than me so it isn’t too far off for you either.

“That or your family connections. A language like that? It would be stupid for the powerful to not look into it. Even on the most basic level, it removes the language barrier in a way learning a new language to talk to someone just doesn’t.”

Rosha sighed, “So what do you know? Is this another one of those pieces of ‘past life’ trivia? I’m pretty sure we talked about this at some point, but I can’t rightly remember.”

Jason, “My past life? No, not really. Well, I guess technically there were some myths and such that might be talking about it? Hell, I don’t rightly know if what I’ve put together is close to correct.

“Anyway, I’m thinking it isn’t a language. Well, it is a language in that you can speak and write it, but it isn’t a language in the same way that depending on who you ask, waves in the air may or may not be sound.”

Rosha frowns, “I don’t think that is how science works? Obviously sound is waves in the air.”

Courtney sighs, “As much as I dislike this sort of terminology debate stuff, he isn’t wrong. Basically, two different fields of science define sound differently. The more mechanical side defines it as those pressure waves and the psychological side defines sound as being what those pressure waves get translated to in your head.”

Jason nods, “Yep, mechanical versus mental. And this language falls into a similar category. You could never use speech to text or OCR to transcribe this language because it means nothing until something comprehends it.

“Sure, the technology or magic trying to transcribe it would understand the language. But when they copy it down? The words come out in the transcribers native language or the language of the creator of said process.”

Courtney interrupts, “Wait. ‘The technology would understand it’? What even does that mean?”

Jason, “It just does. That is kind of the point. Oh, and the argument of whether air pressure waves are sound? You can hear this language as sound without it being transmitted through air. Someone capable of speaking it can do so in the void of space and be heard perfectly fine.

“Not me, mind you. While I can say those three words, it is only the surface layer of what the language can do. For instance, someone capable of properly saying the word ‘Truth’ will be incapable of lying. Any attempts to tell a lie will be obvious to any listener. I’m just starting out on this path.”

Rosha looks at him oddly, “Wah? What even is that nonsense you just said? How would you even know that?! Especially if this wasn’t something from your past life.”

Jason shrugs, it was true that he didn’t learn about the language in his last life. In fact, he hadn’t learned it in this life either. Rather, he learned about the language between lives from a group of meddling deities. The language of intent isn’t even easy for God’s to speak, with most of them being limited to their name and core domains.

Of course, he can’t exactly explain all this. Well, he could, but he felt such an explanation might stretch things a little bit. To have them believe in his last life was already a stretch. For them to also believe he got to chill with a bunch of gods and watch his friend’s hero journey? That is a little more out there.

Comments

Did he say [Starlight]'s name to them? This could very well be an error on my part because I don't remember that.

Akhier Dragonheart

He did this earlier with starlight's name. Why are they acting like that didn't happen?

Gaxlii

Why yes, yes it was!

The new Tom Scott video was a fun one to watch.
