[NR] Lots Of Resistances - Chapter 477
Added 2023-03-15 11:26:31 +0000 UTCIn the end, it takes Jason two and a half weeks to find a helmet. In fact, the helmet he found was a bit pricier than he would have preferred, but Rosha was close to finishing up her training. Not that it should have actually taken almost the full time to complete.
Rather, since she paid for the time and it had been taking Jason a while, Rosha took her time. Not just learning things, but working to internalize them. This both annoyed and amused her teachers.
They could tell that she probably could have had the skills all learnt within the first week and change. Instead she dragged it out by identifying the key bits that the System required for the skill and stepping around them. Not the hardest thing to do with basic skills as they tend to be quite straightforward.
As for Courtney? She figured out her healing spell after just short of two weeks. Though in a complete reversal of Rosha's situation, Courtney's teachers had purposefully delayed teaching the last bits.
Why? Because that was part of what allowed them to teach a pretty generic antidote spell that was also targeted at the dungeon's poison gas. They delay the last bit while teaching a bunch of things specific to handling the stuff.
Now, you would think that with something like that, you could just learn that specific information later to improve the skill. Sort of like how Jason's resistance skill gets better at resisting poisons and venoms he has experienced. The System, sadly, doesn't think that way.
While you can use the knowledge to help, it won't be an actual effect of the spell. This means stuff like extended cast times, increased Mana cost, and a chance the spell might fail. The only way to alter the base spell after you learn it, is through changing it enough that the System recognizes it as a different spell. That or getting lucky with a rank up, like how Jason's farming skills turned into Herb Farming.
So, with Rosha having learnt a bunch of skills and Courtney learning yet another variant spell, we are back with Jason. An incredibly lucky man because someone failed at making a semi-intricate design that hadn't really been streamlined for NeoRealm. So yeah, a player did it.
To be specific, what they did was make a leather helmet in the style of an old fashioned aviator helmet. Except of course the helmet is two-toned and the goggles are permanently attached to the thing so they don't count as a separate piece of equipment. Mind you, the fact that they managed that last piece is impressive in and of itself.
It would be like trying to make a brass knuckle also count as four rings and normally the extra effects outside of what is identified as the main function gets canceled out. So the fact that the goggles are an actual part of the helmet while also providing effects is something the other crafters were quite interested in. If only it had better stats.
Oh, and after buying the helmet, Jason went and picked up the best chest armor he could. This left him with 108 gold, 30 silver, and 2 copper. Oh, and he sold the ostrich feathers, Jackel tails, and even the redeath rose oil he had been saving. That last one kind of hurt, but they weren't planning on facing any undead hordes in the near future.
The only upside is that the rose oil actually sold for over two hundred gold. After all, it isn't exactly available nearby and one of the local churches snapped it up. And so with all that out of the way, Jason's backpack is emptier than it has been on a while and he is wearing two new pieces of gear.

Two Tone Leather Aviator Helmet And Goggles
Description: Made in the style of an old fashion traveller design meant for open air flight. The attached goggles have been woven into the design of the item so well that they do not count as a separate item. Dark blue leather and a black leather that seems tinted with yellow has been used to create a muted pattern. Deemed a failure for the low stat values.

The generic chest piece was nice enough and did that fancy force redistributing thing good modern armor does. More important than all of that is the fact that the helmet actually mentions a specific break for its glare prevention. If that had been for anything besides preventing glare, the helmet would have been worth at least three to five times more.
Why? Because until the fifth break, level 100, all resistances and such are pretty generic and work no matter the level. So, until level 100 the hat's lightning resistance will knock off five percent of the damage, no problem. Even if you got that on newb gear it would work.
The fifth break is when normal people gain something that means previous resistances and such are a magnitude worse at blocking them. Though in turn, stuff from the sixth break works a magnitude better. That means that the five percent lightning resistance on the hat only does point five percent and if the resistance was sixth break it would be 50 percent resistance.
