Surely a IoT fridge would object, and want you to talk about your feelings? :D

That's true, but I would point out that "People who do the wrong thing because what they want has changed and they don't know how to deal with getting what they want" has been an ongoing theme in QC. Faye isn't trying to control the situation. I would say that she genuinely wants to make Bubbles happy...she just doesn't know how to do that (yet). Bubbles genuinely wants to have a life again but she's similarly ill prepared to do so (she was instantiated, she decided to join the military, she lost her squad, got PTSD, got mind-fucked and enslaved by a criminal, met someone she likes, made friends, saw some unicorns, met her species equivalent of god, got free/homeless, got taken home by Faye, and is now presumably going into business with Faye. That's a lot of adjustment for someone who still wears armor.

Bubbles is touchy (with good reason) about autonomy, I don't think you need to bring crushes into it.

If I had to guess, I'd say the anger issues only showed up after she got the chassis.

Totally serious about well-played. Your sense of story structure has evolved to the point that this comic is barely recognizeable compared to the early stuff. This is well crafted.

Other observation: Bubbles is upset because she has a crush on Faye and when asked about the reverse by Dora, Faye was all "no, no!" even though she does, in fact, have a huge crush on Bubs.

Observation: For purposes of this narrative: Renee ~= Faye; Elliot ~= Bubbles. Unlike Elliot, Bubs is so not a sub. Bossy chick vs Soft Boy juxtaposed with bossy chick vs Hard Girl. Well played, Jeph.

Quite right. I was thinking about the process that got her that chassis. I doubt every AI volunteer got that kind of chassis just because they volunteered! I'd want a selection process that strongly selected for equanimity in all circumstances.
I've been through a year-long military selection process myself. I was consistently in the top 10% until just near the end, when I suddenly washed out. Surprised everyone when that happened, including myself. The problem was handling a year of stress, something the folks in the bottom 10% of graduates handled better than I did.
Looking back, it was the best thing to ever happen to me, though it did take a couple years for me to realize it.

AI's are sentient beings. If you'll read the back story, you'll find that Bubbles CHOSE to join the military. She felt the urge to serve.

It's interesting that a combat unit is even ABLE to be angry. Even our dear Bubbles. I wonder how her commanding officers felt about it...

I think Bubbles' walking out was a good decision. She was too angry to deal with the problem in any sort of sensible fashion. That gives her a chance to calm down and act rationally.

Hanners isn't afraid of dealing with angry AI's. I think she's probably the best person Bubbles could talk to at the moment.
