Bonus Pod - Consume Me

This week on Bonus Pod, host Haley MacLean is joined by Leo Vader and Game Informer's Charles Harte to get in the thematic weeds of Consume Me, a (unfortunately) very relatable indie life sim and Two Tens contender. They also talk about Charles' incredible proposal and post-proposal Disney trip!

the church scene is explicitly all about Jenny being offered a way to ease her burdens without any strings attached! the visuals are so haunting and scary as she's held by the grinning face of jesus, and like Leo said, it's about how she uses it as a blunt instrument to reinforce and support what she already wants. I'm not a religious person and I found that section to be one of the most powerful in the game; it really captured her desperation for a magic solution, and it was very consistent with the tone and theme the game was running with throughout. I think it's very clear that the game/author is not framing this type of spirituality in a positive light, so I was really surprised to hear y'all say it was difficult to understand/relate to.

The part about "Our relationship takes poison damage everytime we're apart!" and thr boyfriend being like "What are you talking about??" Reminded me of **Spoilers for Disco Elysium** when you talk to your wife and she says something like "You're still doing that thing, aren't you? Where you imagine all the possible things you could say before picking one? I always hated that..." or something along those lines, basically calling out the core gameplay mechanic as, essentially, one of the reasons their relationship failed.
