I recently went to Victoria, BC and there is a board game bar and arcade within a couple blocks of each other. I've also been to Vancouver in the last year, so far I've loved spending some time in Canada!

2024-07-30 16:23:37 +0000 UTCSo funny hearing Haley mention Twin Peaks when Bob talks about how younger him would have made EarthBound his entire personality. As a fellow EB freak, I would say that Peaks is actually the game’s closest media analogue. Sweet, silly characters set against an unfathomable interdimensional entity whose malign influence has begun to slowly poison the town. It’s that juxtaposition of pure innocence against cosmic darkness that strikes me as super Peaks-y and I guess deeply Lynchian in general. It’s also one of the earliest games where I can really feel the hand of an auteur behind it - there are so many beautiful textural touches that would have been sanded off in any other game and they make this one feel alive in a way that I’m not sure I’ve seen replicated to this day. Now you got me dying for an EarthBound Deepest Dive. 😫
