Hello MinnMax, Do you ever listen to a podcast and when the hosts begin discussing so specific to you and your interests you wish so badly you could chime in? Happens to me all the time.

Michael Griffin

Hey folks, last week Capcom made a surprise announcement of a Dead Rising Remake, while I'm very happy for the fans while watching the teaser my one takeway was "man the protagonist looks like ass". Thoughts?

Hey MinnMax! I really enjoyed you all having Ellie Joy Panic on last week. When Ellie was talking about streaming Elden Ring originally and avoiding that “hype period” it made me realize I sometimes enjoy checking out a piece of media more once that initial hype period has died down a bit. I think that’s because I don’t feel the pressure of experiencing something at the same pace as everyone else at that point in time. Have you all had any pieces of media (movies, games, tv shows, etc) you intentionally waited to experience once the hype died down? Did that help or hinder your enjoyment?

Justin Toledo

What are your thoughts on mayo? I think I hate it more than anything, and its mass appeal makes me feel alone in this world.

Kenjamin

It’s so good! I’m on one one of the last chapters of the base game (because the DLC is also included), and it’s incredible. I’m like 10% not smart enough for it, so I’m grateful for the hint system. :)

Travis in Fargo

oooh Golden Idol is so great. Highly recommend that one.

humanfart

Hi everyone! On the bonus pod, Haley mentioned wanting to do a "First Mario Kart" race at her wedding instead of a first dance, which is amazing. My husband and I also did a non-traditional moment for our wedding where our first dance was Dance Dance Revolution! Did any of you have/want to do/witness any fun, non-traditional gamer-a$$ wedding moments? I assume if Janet is planning one, she won't reveal it in advance (congrats, btw!)

Chris Endres-Buñag

What are everyone's thoughts on "Streamer Bait" games? Games like Getting Over It, Chained Together, A Difficult Game about Climbing, The Game of Sisyphus, are all games I love watching NorthernLion play. It's perfect banter/visual podcast. But I can't imagine personally playing them. The extreme punishment of these games would cause me to quit after maybe 3 tries. Do any of you play mess with these games?

PapawDiesel

I love the Metroid series, but I just can't seem to get into the first one because of how it controls (although I really enjoy Zero mission). What's a game from a favorite series that you just don't really care for and is there a specific reason why?

Anthony Russo

howuch thought do you put into song oder when making a mix?

RabidLime

Thank you, you are probably right. Though it's not that I hate reading, I just need something other than the reading - like systems that interact with it, which is why I though i'd like Citizen Sleeper. I also had the thought that voice acting might help a lot with De. I also like Persona for example, and I got Pyre during the Steam sale and I really like it so far, even though it has a lot of reading.

Andreas Jensen

Bad news MinnMax you picked up a cursed ring. Now you're forced to choose one game character to have a body pillow of and you'll have to hug this pillow to sleep every day for the rest of your life. Who would you choose to? (I spent the weekend at a manga/anime/fandom convention)

resnet

then there might be a chance that you'd bounce of DE too. While there's more than just reading in it, reading is a really essential part of it and a lot of the interesting bits are from reading. While it's one of my fav games ever, I don't see the need to sell it to someone who might just not enjoy this kind of games

resnet

*Jerry Seinfeld voice* What's the deal with DLC? Downloadable Content? Shouldn't it just be DC? What are some of your favorite/stupidest acronyms in the gaming world?

Alex Britt

Will I like Disco Elysium? Please sell me on it. It has a deep discount in the Steam sale right now, but I'm skeptical, as it seems like all you do is read in it. For reference I bounced of Citizen Sleeper hard, as it just seems like a wall of text - at least in the beginning.

Andreas Jensen

Howdy Minmaxxamillions, Looking forward to the community meetup. Though this is something to look forward to and often you are doing some kind of meetup here and there, do you get nervous at any point? If so, which part specifically and what do you do to get over the nerves (other than the beer)?

Poofydoo

Did you guys know that “Animus” isn’t just a made up sci-fi term for the assassins creed machine? I just found out it’s an actual word, it’s basically short for animosity and means “hostility or ill feeling”. Am I an idiot for not knowing that?

Greg Varney

Hey Ben and co! With the focus on fashion content in new show plus I was wondering what are some of the best dressed video game characters? a few particular favs of mine are Ema Skye from Apollo Justice or Yuna's outfit from FFX-2

Horizon Zero Dawn. Have only completed it 1x and it's probably #4 on my top fav games ever. Edit to add: I have completed my top 2 games multiple times (Chrono Trigger & Kingdom Hearts) and for my #3 (Elden Ring) I am currently on my second playthrough (NG+)

Dusty Beaman

I'm having an endoscopy and colonoscopy in the morning, 10:30am sharp. At bedtime, I ate a gummy and then started the latest Bonus Pod to zone out, calm my nerves, and help me gently drift off to sleep. Mere minutes later, I was emotionally devastated to my core by Haley's jaw surgery story, particularly regarding the careless breathing tube extraction that resulted in a torn esophagus and several weeks of a surprise liquid diet. Several hours have passed and I'm now typing this while hiding under my sheets and getting increasingly terrified of internal rippage at one or both ends. Thanks Haley! Other than Haley, can any of you think of a time you told a seemingly innocuous story on air and later found out that it utterly traumatized a fan? Bonus question: can you recommend a good therapist?

oaklandnative

Not only thought about it, but have successfully completed this. I love it. Wife and son love it too. Reese's is way better imo. I also use a mini-marshmellow as well instead of the full size one

Dusty Beaman

Hiya, What is a game that has an intro that you’ve played many times without getting too far into the game itself? I booted up Mega Man X tonight and after playing the intro and Chill Penguin stages I realized that this is one for me. I’ve booted it up possibly 30 times in my life and always play these two stages, love them, and fail to return to it. What’s a game like this for you?

Conner McCabe

Everyone, please sit down. I have disquieting news to share. Due to my Fire TV stick randomly surfacing trailers for stuff in the background since I'd let it sit idle for a few minutes, I have learned that Ben Hanson has a doppelganger. More shocking still is that said doppelganger is that most disgraceful of careers in Ben's eyes: an actor. His name is Sam Hazeldine, the first image result should suffice as you're all typing his name into your browsers right now, and Ben should go knock over a bank or a liquor store and let Sam Hazeldine take the fall for it, before Sam Hazeldine does exactly that to Ben. Okay, smooches, bye.

wittynicknamehere .

Good question! If you could only eat the traditional food of one country what would it be?

Graham Walker

Thanks for Haley and Janet for telling horror stories on the Bonus Pod! They motivated me to finally book a long-postponed dentist's appointment 😅 Q: Do y'all procrastinate on getting your health issues fixed?

Miskain

Hey everyone. Lately I struggle to be sure I'm playing a game cause I'm enjoying it and not acquiring it. Acquiring meaning that I'm playing for any other reason, whether to be able to say I've played it, talk about it with others, fomo, etc. How do you tell when you are playing because you enjoy it or to acquire it? Excluding the nature of your jobs, obviously.

Riley

Are you guys sleeping on Necromerger? The best mobile game I have played. Forces you to stop every now and then. Completely free with optional ads (you open the ad for a bonus, or feed the ad to your monster for a small benefit without watching). What is everyone's favourite phone game of all time? My criteria for a good one are: 1. Unobtrusive or optional ads 2. Using the touch screen should be the best way to play it (I hate twin stick shit on phone). 3. Doesn't demand your attention all the time. I shouldn't be penalised for not playing all day

Stephen Rigney

Hey gang, How have your gaming tastes changed over the years? When I was but a wee lad, I was really into racing games; Metropolis Street Racer; Project Gotham Racing; Need For Speed Underground; to name but a few. But these days, not even the new Forza Horizon games peak my interest, despite how solid and acclaimed they are. Are there any genres of games that you stopped playing or stopped enjoying and why do you think that is? Cheers. Andy - DarkEngine

Dark Engine

Hi MinnMax! Have you ever taken the bait and get into a pointless argument on the internet? I am embarrassed that I recently got into it over the dessert name "Pizookie" with a person and just had to step back and think what am I doing?

Paul Sanchez

Hello! I recently played through all of the metal gear solid games for the first time and the main theme of the third game, Snake Eater has been on repeat in my mind and in my car ever since it first dropped in the explosive title sequence of that game. So, my question for you is What video game has the best opening title drop of all time?

Republic_Rabatine

Ben, what’s the connection between you and Lizzie Killian? I did not expect to see the lead singer of Teens in Trouble on MinnMax’s Instagram!

Baba Yaga

Hiya Minnesota Maximalists! If you could be a pro at any Olympic sport what would you choose?

Limp Bizquick

what game in your library do you regret buying? something that you thought you'd love, but just didn't?

RabidLime

last week there was a question about the most visceral and transportive sound in a game (or something along those lines) and no one said the correct answer: the home run bat from Smash

RabidLime

Hey MinnMax, It was recently revealed that Astrobot was made by a team of 60 people over 3 years. The average game developer salary in Japan is $45,000. Multiply that out and you get just over $8 Million in salaries so let's round up to $10 Million. Factor in other expenses as well as marketing and the total budget is probably around $30 Million. It's refreshing to see a game from Sony that will break even at around 500,000 units rather than the millions it usually takes. Do you think we need to see more games of this scope to keep the industry healthy?

Hello Hello. Recently Ray Kurzweil has been making the rounds talking about the Singularity and how it will most likely affect us all. According to Kurzweil, and others in the AI/AGI fields, it seems as if our imaginations will apparently allow us to create whatever worlds we want, whenever we want them. If this is true (and many believe it to be), what type of world will you make as your first experience? Mars from MN

Hi Minnmax, What is your favorite wackiest party game you bring out when you have friends over? Wii Sports Resort’s Speed Slice is a personal favorite.

Ari Torbin

Hello everyone! In November I ordered the Baulders Gate 3 physical deluxe edition and I’m still waiting for it(should be this month). Been waiting to play it for the first time with this edition and can’t wait! With the all the games that ended up lining the back half of the year the delay of this game has really put a wrench into how I was going to tackle what’s coming out . What game has thrown a wrench into your play schedule? Thanks for everything!! Have a good one!!

Joshua H.

Howdy Cohorts. I was curious what your favorite game is that you only played through once. Most of my top games are ones that I keep going back to. Do you think if you revisited it now it would still keep the high marks? I don't think seeing credits is necessary. I think my answer is Rage. Such a fantastic game!

James Pinto

Hello game friends who are getting better. It’s your day off what has to happen for it to be the perfect day off? Breakfast, a hike, straight gaming? I always end up cleaning and too tired to play anything lol

Hello Ben, Janet, Leo, Haley, Jacob! (aka Ben and the Horts) My question this week is all about remasters: With the announcement of Capcom bringing back the Original Dead Rising to modern consoles and Ubisoft surprising us all with a Beyond Good & Evil Remaster, what does everyone think about these remastered games that no one seems to be clamoring for? Of everything that could be worthy of a remaster, Dead Rising and Beyond Good and Evil were not on my Bingo Card (especially since Dead Rising had a remaster a few years ago). Is this some stop-gap because studios and publishers are at a crossroads for how expensive new IP could be and the lack of guaranteed success? Why is there such a push for games from the early 2000s? Curious to hear your thoughts!

Hey all! Recently I've gotten super into James Hoffman's channel. He's a british coffee pro who does all sorts of content from best brewing practices to espresso machine reviews and more. The thing is I don't drink coffee and frankly dont care much about it, but there's something about the production and delivery of his videos that make them super easy to binge. Are there any creators whose videos you always watch despite any interest in the subject?

notweirder

For extra context, Nintendo bought the developer Next Level Games a while back, and I never really considered the implication of it on their non-Nintendo games. SEGA was the original publisher. And to make it more weird, Disney bought Marvel during the development of this game, so the original terms were probably negotiated between Next Level Games, SEGA, and Marvel.

Tess

Who do you think owns the code for "Captain America: Super Soldier" for the PS3? Nintendo, SEGA, or Disney?

Tess

Greetings Minnmaxers, What routine task has helped you thrive in the morning? I started drinking a cup of water before I have my standard cup of joe and feel like it’s helped me feel less groggy when I wake up.

Love the six shooter duel each year! Here’s my unrelated question though. Your discussion on getting old brings to mind how our generation comments a lot about the cringy things current day middle/high schoolers are doing. But that makes me wonder, what were some of the most cringy things that WE did at that age? If the internet was more prolific back then, what would the older generation have been facepalming about us in the comment sections of stories?

BearCommando

Hey, MinnMax! We've been talking about a lot of new games. Time for something old! For years, many classic and modern third-party games have been flocking to the Nintendo Switch. From Dark Souls, Portal, and even The Witcher 3. What is a game (or games) that still haven't made the Switch *snaps* that you would like to see? And do you think your choice will show up on Switch 2? Thanks!

This should get comment of the week if for nothing else then the little sing-song I just made up in my head from the titles rhyming...

Have you all ever heard of Tetris Effect? Not the game you weirdos! The anxiety inducing after effects of playing too much of a Puzzle Game. Originally the phrase was coined for College Students who played too much of Tetris Effect who would see blocks falling at night time when trying to sleep. I however have what I believe to be a very bad form of it where I can not play any Match Game. Such as Candy Crush or the Pokemon Puzzle League game due to seeing it at night time to the point I can not sleep and it becomes painful mentally, even though I would otherwise enjoy the genre. Does anyone else from MinnMax suffer from this? Also I know Ben can't play some games due to Motion Sickness. Does anyone else have anything mental or physical that prevents them from playing certain games? Let me know so I don't feel so alone. Have a great fourth of July!

Sincerly, Eric

Hey Minn Maxers! Happy Canada Day! (July 1st) I was wondering what this awesome group of people thought of engagement rings/the diamond industry? For those that engage (heh) with these products, are there any considerations you take when deciding on a stone? Love the content, crew and show! CANAS1AN

CANAS1AN

Hey cohorts. The GameCube, Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 all seem to have a following that holds up to this very day. Why is it that the original Xbox seems to not share in this aspect of its generational siblings?

Will there ever be another AAA Avengers game? It seems odd that there was only a single live-service game which quickly died. This is the biggest film franchise of all time! Why aren’t there more video game tie-ins?

Jonah Abraham

What games do you regret giving up on? And conversely, which ones are you glad you gave up on?

Victor Pham

Hi everyone. I genuinely look forward to the "shoot your 6" episode half way through the year. How about a lighting round for movies? Here's 10 anticipated films opening in the 2nd half of 2024, so who wants to take a shot with these? Twisters (July 19th) Deadpool & Wolverine (July 26th) Borderlands (Aug 9th) Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (Sept 6th) Joker: Folie à Deux (Oct 4th) Paddington in Peru (Nov 8th) Gladiator 2 (Nov 22nd) Moana 2 (Nov 27th) Wicked (Nov 27th) Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (Dec 20th)

Hey MinnMax, if you can have a garden gnome of any video game character, what would it be?

Malcolm Holliday

Hey Minnies and Maxims! Who do you try and embody when you are trying to be funny?aka who’s your comedic muse whenever you podcast? I get a lot of Conan O Brien isms from Ben and Turk isms (from Scrubs) from Janet and really appreciate that 😂

Gooseberry

With the sadness of Ben not asking the “do you know how this whole thing operates” question for a few episodes there and thinking how it might not return, it got me thinking - what are some of the best mechanics you enjoyed in a game that were NOT included in a direct sequel or follow up? I always enjoyed the dual-wielding in Halo 2 and 3 but was sad that they’re no longer a part of the series.

Mike Chase

Hello MinnMax crew! What is the most heroic thing you've done? Mine was saving a toddler from drowning when I was a kid. I peaked early.

Jeorin

Hey, MinnMax! Did Ben beat the Dancing Lion in Erdtree? Did this past week convince him to stick with the DLC?

The Sleepy MailMan

Hey Cohorts and Crew! Absolutely love the show. I know everyone games a lot, but I was wondering how many games you currently have installed across all your systems? 10(Switch)+26(Steam PC) +35(Steamdeck)+4(Epic)+7(Gamepass PC)+20(Gamepass Xbox)+16(PS5)+26(PS4 on PS5 USB)=144 games for me as of July 1st. The only game that overlaps is Rocket League on PS4, Xbox, and pc. Is that a lot? Can't wait to hear your answers!

Cath

What are game budgets actually used for? How is that 200 million dollar budget allocated? It's certainly not going to the developers. AAA games and set pieces can "look" expensive, but how does that correlate to the cost of an experience? It's not like they're paying developers more to code and animate a complex scene -- certainly not millions more. What do you think? Is there a future for mainstream games that doesn't involve such heightened budgets? Toodles, Ian

Hey all, I'm getting married this Saturday. Do ye have any fun (or funny) wedding stories?

Gavin Fitzgerald

Imagine you're walking down a long hallway that's empty except for someone you barely know walking toward you. You both definitely see each other and have about 30 seconds before you pass each other. That's a long time of silence and consideration for the potential interaction to come. Do you say hi as you pass? Ignore the person? Wait to see what they do and respond accordingly? I know from experience that my answer is "make a noise that kind of sounds like 'hupgwnn' a second or two too late to be a normal greeting."

MakeItUnclear

Heya gang! Since y'all are looking forward to the second half of the year, I'd like to ask you something on last year's second half: Off the top of your head, what game from 2023's second half has changed in your eyes, be it in a good or bad way? Shadow of the Erdtree made me think even better of Lies of P - it's pretty much a FromSoft game made by a different studio. All the best!

Luis Pérez

What is your hypothetical survival plan for a zombie apocalypse? Assume we’re dealing with your typical zombie, slow walking and weak to headshots. Do you go it solo or group together? Are you bunkering down like Bill in the last of us or are you hitting the road like Joel and Ellie? Where do you go and how long do you think you could realistically survive?

Adam Brungardt

Yo! As someone who just purchased their first home (congratulations to Ben, by the way), my favorite part so far has been filling it with the things I'm most passionate about, whether that be merchandise for games, manga, anime, or anything in between. I know some people can go overboard with this; but I do think it's a really neat and fun way to express yourself when done in moderation. This topic was touched on in a recent episode of Bonus Pod; but I'd like to bring the conversation to the main show... What's everyone's favorite thing in their home that they feel really represents their taste? What does that object say about you as a person?

Caleb Giovannelli

Hey everyone! I have a game: What's More Likely. I'll give you two options and you tell me which is more likely to happen. 1. What's more likely: having twins or catching a foul ball at an MLB game? (Twins= 1/250, Foul Ball= 1/1000) 2. Falling out of a roller coaster or being bitten by a shark? (Shark= 1/11.5 million, roller coaster= 1/170 million) 3. Winning the lottery or walking on the moon? (Lottery= 1/300 million, Moon = 1/308.3 million)

Sgt Peppa

Hey MinnMax, Metaphor Refantazio seems to have a pretty interesting mix of RPG and turn-based combat, and I think that's a pretty cool mix! Are there any mechanic mash-ups that you really enjoy or would like to see?

Jeeo Banogy

Hey, Minnfolk, what’s your favorite part of the six shooter duels? Finding out everybody’s weird or surprising interests in upcoming games? Or is it the inevitable discussion about how the bullets get back in your gun when someone else claims the game? Because it’s the latter for me by a lot.

Otsego12

Hey CLC’s, This game is called, “Name Your Game Studio”. With all the crazy studio names out there, I often find myself deeply pondering the meaning/origin behind the studio name. Some like From Software may just be a language translation thing while others like 343 or The Coalition seem pretty straightforward as they are named after characters in previous games I believe. If you could name your own video game studio, what would it be and what would the animation logo be upon loading the game? Would you go for a family name such as Hanson Farms? Would you have cool ambient piano keys sounding like Bethesda did in older games like Oblivion? Use your imagination!! Thanks!

Neal McMahon

Hey, I've been thinking about charge shots, holding down the button before you fire. What is best, or best charge before attack?

Martin Hollis

If a bike, hypothetically, is sitting in a pile of garbage on the curb during garbage day, hypothetically, is that free for the taking? And hypothetically, if one were to find, I don't know... 4 or 5 bikes in the span of a month and Hurriedley crammed them in the back of their prius, What are the chances of someone calling the police on said person? Hypothetically.

Not a question, but my daughter just referred to Metroid as Tetroid, and now all I want is Tetroid. Thanks, Jeremy from Alaska

Hey, gang! Someone in the discord asked about when certain cohorts might return to the show since it had been a while since their last appearance. Naturally, I started wondering who has appeared the most on the show this year. The count below is only for the Minnmax show and doesn’t include guests. This is entertaining, right? 2024 Minnmax Show Half-year Appearance Count Ben - 25 Kyle - 16 Janet - 13 Jacob - 13 Leo - 10 Haley - 8 Huber - 7 JeffM - 6 Sarah - 6 Kelsey - 5 Charles - 3

Howdy folks! Have you ever had a dream so memorable that you still remember it to this day? Could be for any reason, good or bad. I can think of a few of my own (some of which I had YEARS ago).

tuxpeng

What’s the best worst line of dialogue? Think “You were almost a Jill Sandwich.”

Hayden Williams

What controversial gaming thing do you quietly enjoy despite negative discourse? I have a PSVR2 and use it a few times a month. I've loved the games I've played so far and even the relatively small library is too many games for me to ever catch up with, so within my limited gaming time bubble, it's great.

RickyWinterborn

In honor of the 4th of July. What is the cohorts favorite tyrannical empire to fight? Examples: Half life 2 Combine, The Galactic Empire, The Covenant, The Locust.

DrVaider

Do you actually stick to these duels? Cause I enjoy the episodes every year or however often, then I never hear about it again until the next one. Is it all just a ruse?

What were your first jobs in general? And also, what were your first jobs in the games press industry?

In the menu of an open world game, how should the tabs be ordered? Should the Map always be the first tab, or should it be the Inventory or your Quests? My favourite order is Map, Inventory, Quests, Skills, Lore/Training, and then System Stuff. Maybe it really depends on each game.

Scott Steeves

I've been waiting to see Jacob Geller and Leo Vader show up as guests during the question segment to ask about Nebulas recent partnership with Spotify. How does that work for you guys? Do you get a choice on if you want your content to be available that way? Were you consulted at all in the decision to have nebula the platform partner with Spotify at all?

Hey y’all, let’s just get into it: what is the best bread?

(I know the deepest dive is ongoing but I can’t wait a month to ask this) Hey CHCs, specific question for Jacob here: have you got to/beat the final SOTE boss? If so did you beat him so hard that your Apple Watch gave you a notification warning that your heart rate was too high?

PSA: If you have a Netflix account (or, like me, use your mom’s for free), remember that there are some cool video games included with that membership, including Into the Breach and Case of the Golden Idol - both of which are great on mobile!

Is there a good, bad, great, or awful video game line you memorized, willing or not? "Courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality" is my stain, my scar. Thanks crappy Tales of Symphonia sequel.

Joshua Ayers

Hey MinnMax! If you had to guess, what percentage of the English dictionary do you think you know? I am defining “know” as knowing a word well enough to use it in a sentence correctly.

Steve Bellegarde

How many chuggas before “choo choo?”

humanfart

If you were to also shoot for 2 movies releasing this year, which ones would they be?
