The only other dlc that compete are the cuphead dlc and cyberpunk phantom liberty. 2024-06-26 01:52:45 +0000 UTCHave you ever felt like your opinion of a game was wildly out-of-step with its popular reception? And has this ever retroactively affected how you felt about it? A great example of this for me was Doom Eternal; I thoroughly enjoyed my time with that game and thought the changes they made to the combat where you were encouraged to use different parts of your kit for specific purposes (eg. Glory Kills for health, Flame Belch for armor, Chainsaw for ammo, etc.) were really smart as they brought more variety to the gameplay and made the combat more purposeful and strategic without sacrificing any of its speed or intensity. If you had asked me at the time, I'd have told you I liked Doom Eternal as much, if not more than 2016... but when I hopped online to look at discussions about the game, a lot of people seemed to think the changes made the combat too restrictive, and the general sentiment seemed to be that Eternal had overcomplicated things and 2016 was the better game overall. Fast forward a few years, and I now find myself looking back on Doom 2016 much more fondly than Eternal, but I can't help but wonder if I'd feel different had Eternal received universal acclaim. I'm very curious to get your takes on this as I imagine you all must experience this a lot more, as you often get to play games before the internet hive-mind has cast its judgement.

Do you have your own strange injury story that makes you laugh looking back? For example, my Dad partially tore a muscle in his calf while playing Kinect Sports's Track and Field mode. He then had to explain this to his boss because he needed time off to recover. We all still laugh about the story to this day, my Dad included. Thanks for all y'all do!!!

Even though I love secrets and puzzles I don't think I would have enjoyed Dark Souls without sparing use of a guide because of how obtuse those games can be. But when it's a game, it's "I didn't play it." I leave the option open that I might get around to it for other types of media, but for games, once the moment is gone, it's gone. Is this just a me thing? What do you think's going on here?

I'm pretty good at tactical-type games like XCOM or Banner Saga, but I recently played Alien: Dark Descent, and it beat me senseless. Overpowered enemies, levels that lasted way too long, and an incredibly unforgiving autosave system led me to uninstall the game after spending over 20 hours fighting for my life just to make it to the game's 4th chapter out of 13.

While they were staying with us I learned that they absolutely detest cold coffee, even iceless cold brew drinks. Victory fanfare after a battle? Reloading your favorite gun? For me I think it is now, and will always be the OG FFVII fanfare. But, outside of the Reddit community I just don't really hear people talk about this, or generally other DLCs really. Do you think DLC generally struggles to make an impact and if so why?

Some like From Software may just be a language translation thing while others like 343 or The Coalition seem pretty straightforward as they are named after characters in previous games I believe. If you could name your own video game studio, what would it be and what would the animation logo be upon loading the game? Would you go for a family name such as Hanson Farms? Would you have cool ambient piano keys sounding like Bethesda did in older games like Oblivion? Use your imagination!! Thanks!

I've been thinking a lot about it lately because I hear it often, not only on your show, but really everywhere. I think it bothers me most when it's used in the context of something that I would consider to be art. Sure, call streams, podcasts, or news articles content. But referring to something in the creative arts - including video games - as "content" just feels gross to me; like it's disposable, for people to chew up, fart out, and move onto the next thing. What about the opposite, has there been a situation for you where you became interested in a franchise *because* of the fan community? For me, it would definitely be the Yakuza/Like a Dragon community. The memes, jokes, and excitement the fans shared made it seem like they were having the time of their lives, and it immediately made me want to join in on the fun. 10/10 no regrets.

I cannot wait to re-visit that world and see if I can actually complete it this time. With Case of the Golden Idol, Chants of Sennaar, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, and now Riven coming out in the last few years, it seems we're quietly in a golden age for challenging puzzle games. Zelda's getting as puzzle-focused as ever (Tears of the Kingdom + Echoes of Wisdom), and last year's GOTY, Baldur's Gate 3, is a game you beat with your mind, not your twitchy fingers. Am I nuts in thinking that games are getting smarter, and if so, what's the reason?

It was really nice to see the devs have this kind of winalmost a year after initial release. Is there a game from the past year or two you would like to see get a second wind revival? (Side note: I was one of the ones checking out slay the princess for the first time and I'm obsessed. It's almost like a Horr visual novel Stanley parable. Jill Grodt was right!)

Are there any of these modes that you look back on fondly? I was a big fan of Mass Effect 3's multiplayer myself.

From games feel special because they typically aren’t compromising; they make the game that speaks to a niche group of gamers knowing that a lot of people will dislike it for the same reasons. Are you worried that backlash like this could make more developers try to appease the masses instead of carving out their own lane?. With games taking so long and costing so much do we think even From will start to adjust their philosophy?

I bought an Xbox last year around Starfield's launch and realized that because of GamePass, I have never actually purchased a game for my Xbox which feels pretty weird seeing as I've owned the console for ~ a year. Am I an outlier here? Or do you think there are a slew of Xbox gamers that have never bought a game because of Game Pass? Do you think this pattern of Xbox gamers not buying games on the console affects a publisher's willingness to develop an Xbox port of a game (ie the MvC collection coming to PS, Switch, but not Xbox?)

To this day nothing has made me as irrationally mad as this realization did.
