Hi Minntroids, My first Metroid game and I thought it was top notch! My only real complaint is that the combat system is so deep, and so many of the abilities don’t unlock until relatively late in the game, that by the time I finally felt fluid with the mechanics it was all over! Am I crazy, or is the lack of tough as nails optional area’s / bosses / challenges, that require a mastery of the complete set of combat systems, a glaring flaw in an otherwise excellent package? Am I the only one who feels like I’m all dressed up with no place to go?

The quasi-QTE modes triggered when you counter Raven Beak are amazing and empowering. I particularly love that the normal firing controls still work in this state, you can fire rockets or lasers, and the boss takes actual damage from them. All with no "Press X to Shoot" prompts on screen! The Metroid Samus blast vs Raven Beaks X-form is a nice call back to how we take out the EMMIs with the Omega Blaster as well!

Replaying the game on Hard, one thing I noticed is the game is constantly keeping the difficulty balanced by making the resources you need available when you need it most. I just cleared the room that overheats right before the Varia Suit and when surviving until the end, you're given one of those little monster nests with endless monsters to destroy and let's you refill your health which at that point, you probably need.

Just barely beat the game and missed the cut off point to submit a comment but I just wanted to say I really enjoy the game and playing along with y’all.

Hey cohorts. Is anyone else disappointed you can't use the metroid armor for a new game plus like mode. I definitely would of done another playthrough just so I can experience the same power fantasy I felt using the infinite rocket launcher in Resident Evil 4

Also, don’t know if we’re allowed two questions but hooow did you all find that speed booster puzzle in Burenia? You all know which one I’m talking about! ;)

Where Ridley!? First of all, well done Kyle on your prediction that Ridley wasn’t in Metroid Dread. But what did you all think of his omission? Ridley is to Samus what Ganon is to Link and his absence honestly surprised me. Especially since this was touted as the endpoint of the mainline Metroid game series. Hell, I wouldn’t have minded if they forcibly shoved him in somehow as a clone of a painting of a cyborg version of himself. I’m not sure there was even a reference to him in there. Would’ve loved one last showdown. Your thoughts?

I was stunned that no one in the first half brought up Samus’ boots. It’s most obvious in the scenes where she absorbs the EMMI, but there’s this little plate on the top of her ankle that slides out to allow her to crouch down. It’s such a tiny detail but such a cool bit of sci-fi design that I was so impressed by every time I saw it. Huge revelation: the power suit is very cool.

Did anyone lean into Samus's phantom cloak for the late game Emmis? It was a neat new feature, but never found it too useful. Opted to outrun each time.

Not really a question, just something I realized after finishing the game. The baby Metroid Samus rescued in Metroid 2 has now saved her life three times: once in Super Metroid when it helped her defeat Mother Brain, a second time in Metroid Fusion where it's DNA created the X antidote and then in Dread it's ultimately what saved her from death and is responsible for her transformation into a weird Metroid hybrid... person?

Got two items for the "attention to detail" list. 1. The Pulse Radar scanning the background is totally immersive and makes it feel like these levels exist beyond the 2D plane. 2. Samus only needs to have one foot on a button or switch to activate it! She's even animated to have just one of her feet slowly lower as the button gets depressed. So cool.

Lastly, I think it's pretty smart and cool to have Samus herself become a Metroid - this way you keep the franchise name without having to always be about the little blue guys. And to boot people won't be wrong anymore when they call her metroid! Gotta say though, Samus is hell of DNA Cocktail: human, mawkin, thoha and Metroid (with a hint of X infection and Phazon) all mixed up... geez!
