What is your favorite licensed song in a game? One that you felt just matched the tone and content of the game. Personally, I'm leaning towards Alan Wake and Borderlands for their respective choices.
2020-12-09 20:07:27 +0000 UTCFavorite song has to be Ben Babbit's rendition of "You've got to Walk " from Kentucky Route Zero, but "Paradise (Stay Forever)" from the Paradise Killer soundtrack is a close second, and the whole city pop vibe of that album as a whole, really works for me and then final recommendations are the new opening song from Persona 5 called "Royal Days", Ellie and Joel's crushing "If I ever were to lose you" and this is the wild card but the opening theme of Sakura Wars absolutely slaps. Love you guys! Can't wait for this discussion, love having music and game worlds collide, so much unsung great music. And yeah the FF7 soundtrack is great but there's so much good music from this year! We oughta show it all some love. My list of favorite songs for the year is 800 songs deep, artists have been churning content out in the pandemic so we should try to appreciate as much as we can of this overwhelming avalanche of content.
2020-12-09 19:32:09 +0000 UTCIn case 0-2 people were curious and clicked the link for the victory fanfare thing I mentioned, I edited this post to fix that (still sketchy looking, but actually legit) link.

2020-12-09 18:15:23 +0000 UTCFavorite song of the year has to go to Hell House from FF7 Remake. They combine elements from the regular battle theme, boss battle theme, and the main theme from FF7 to make a fight against a house an epic event. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8jfq3T3Oto&t=163s&ab_channel=KikoZaZ

2020-12-09 17:10:24 +0000 UTCHello! The entire Destiny 2: Beyond Light OST is incredible. I think Deep Stone Lullaby is the best song from a video game in 2020 though. It's incredible on its own, but after 9 hours of trying to beat the Atraks encounter on that first day, this song was everything. My raid group and I were immediately just ready to go on the next encounter after this song. https://youtu.be/qBIJFTPPp-8
2020-12-09 16:50:58 +0000 UTCHello, I know everyone is screaming about FF7 Remake's music, which is good, but Persona 5 Royal is every bit as good as well. The new tracks deliver some great music. There were a number of tracks that really hit me emotionally near the end of the game, like "I believe", but I have to go with "Throw Away Your Mask". It plays during the final encounter in the game, and hits a little differently than other tracks. https://youtu.be/Kbw6hF7tHns I really loved last years music show, and I'm looking forward to this one as well. Thanks!
2020-12-09 15:47:52 +0000 UTCHello all! I'm so excited for your best video game music of the year discussion with Emily Reese. Last year it was one of my favorite MinnMax episodes! There were several soundtracks I loved from the past year but here are some particular highlights: Of course the Final Fantasy VII Remake has an outstanding soundtrack, building off of one of the best soundtracks of all time, and while I realize this is a very standard pick, "One-Winged Angel" is one of my favorite songs from a video game ever, and the arrangement that they made for the remake is great. https://youtu.be/EB8K0AJgiWs Also have you heard the Orchestral Arrangement Album that Square Enix released for FFVIIR? It is very good and includes a battle medley that has the classic Final Fantasy VII victory fanfare right at the end, and they added a chorus that sings "Def-i-nite-ly it's a victory! Ha!" https://sndup.net/3z67 (sorry for the weird link, it's not on YouTube) Streets of Rage 4 also has a great soundtrack, and my favorite song is "The Streets." https://youtu.be/QbY1jHw2tbM Lastly, the soundtrack for Sludge Life is fantastic, and my favorite is probably "LL Cool Hans." https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&t=23m30s&v=Y4wBCCI5Ys0 Thanks again for all the good work! And thanks Emily Reese for coming back!

2020-12-09 14:33:12 +0000 UTCHey y'all! I'd love to recommend two tracks from games this year (well, sort of this year?) that were more than just good music for me: 1) Ellie singing "Take On Me" - This is the moment of the game that resonated with me the most during my playthrough. It was such a sweet moment in the middle of a pandemic-based apocalypse, which felt extra sweet playing it this year. 2) "Too Late to Love You" from Kentucky Route Zero Act III - It was such an awesome moment to have a full-on live music performance in the middle of this game. Much like the atmosphere in the room in-game, I felt transported to a world where I could actually watch a band play music live, which hit me in a way I wasn't expecting. Plus, the game lets us choose the lyrics, which added a nice touch. Thanks for being such a wonderful crew! Daniel E

2020-12-09 13:32:18 +0000 UTCHey Ben and cohorts. How is everyone's week going? Wanted to write in about the book Ready Player Two. It came out around Thanksgiving. I listen to all my books while I work, makes it easier for me. They brought Wil Wheaton back from the first one. I really enjoyed the first book. I've listened to it about 10 times now. I was really excited for the sequel. I will say that I still think the first one is the better one. However I like how Ernest Cline built on the first book and expanded the world. If anyone has read the first one and enjoyed it, you should go read this one. A lot of references to pop and nerd culture. One of my favorite parts of the book is where Wheaton has to read some song lyrics. Scene in the book where Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It" has to be recited. So hearing Wheaton sing the lyrics with a kinda monotone voice is the best. Caught myself laughing out loud. Will probably be listening to it again next year. Thanks for indulging me on this topic. Would also like to say I am also a Nic from Atlanta. Might be the only Nic that doesn't use a K and the end. Thanks for all the content y'all put out. SlyckNic

2020-12-09 11:54:32 +0000 UTCHey y’all, I just wanted to recommend the main theme track from Yakuza: like a dragon (ichiban ka) by Shōnan no Kaze and Yasutaka Nakata. Even though I don’t understand any of the lyrics it’s just such an uplifting and positive song much like the rest of the game. Also, if you haven’t played Yakuza: like a dragon it’s a must play this year and I implore everyone to nudge Ben Hanson into finishing it before end of the year game discussions because the final third of that game is the best part.
2020-12-09 11:04:20 +0000 UTCHi People Has a game actually changed your behavior in every day life or changed your life in some way? I don't mean like it made you cry or was exceptionally cathartic but really made you do something new in your life. Metal Gear Solid 5's stressing of culture's connection to language made me start learning Spanish, a spark which eventually led me to an interest in several different world cultures.
