Basically with this part of the process, I'm just going back and updating the characters from the very start of me drawing the book, back when I wasn't super sure what it was going to mean for them to look "on-model". I still think the OG versions of Val and Lanie are cute, but the second slide has them looking a lot more like their appearance for the other 90% of the book.
My design for Lanie (dark hair) didn't shift too much and I feel like I had a pretty good idea of the vibe I wanted for her from the get-go, but Val took me a bit longer. I remember it being this panel that finally had her click personality-wise in my mind, both her individual energy as well as the loving affection she has for her best friend:
Took my 21 pages to get to this moment so... have a few more edits to do on that first chapter still XD
