There was a prompt on Twitter the other day about which licensed IP you'd like to be given the creative reins to for a comic adaptation. I had a few ideas for myself but one of them was of my favourite book series from my preteen years, Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy.
I haven't read it in years, but Sabriel (the titular heroine from the first book) is a non-evil necromancer who teams up with a spirit familiar in the shape of a cat and a hot prince that she rescued in order to rescue her father and save the kingdom from a higher demon trying to get loose. For a twelve-year-old me, it was a wonderful step into a bit more of a mature fantasy world that had a really interesting, not overworked setting (which is something that makes it hard for me to get into a lot of fantasy books even now); the second book's heroine is a young woman struggling with a lot of mental illness things that I came to really identify with and who ends up summoning a talking black dog companion for her quest, so this series just in general was really perfect for me ♥
(sorry for rambling about some of my favourite books, legit I would love to do a graphic novel version of it if that were ever something to happen)
