Dr. Who Reaction 14x7 The Legend of Ruby Sunday

Comments

"Oh, man. Don't you see? It's an anagram. 'S Triad' spells out ... 'TARDIS'. The name is TARDIS Technology.", "Well, obviously. Thank you.", "Even I got that.", The Doctor, Kate Stewart, Colonel Ibrahim, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" This is a great setup for this season's finale with the Susan misdirection and big visual effects. "Okay, all of you, I need your help. Because something really weird keeps happening. Everywhere I land, a woman appears.", The Doctor, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" And the Doctor goes on to list a few time we've seen her and some others that we hadn't seen. But he misses a few he probably didn't know about: she was Isaac Newton's housekeeper in "Wild Blue Yonder" and she was at Ruby's band's performance in "The Church On Ruby Road". "You expressly told us in the 1970s, UNIT was absolutely forbidden to experiment with any form of time technology.", "Do you have a Time window?", "Ten floors down.", Kate Stewart and The Doctor, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" This is not a reference to an explicit instruction by the Doctor in a Classic story. But there are time-related Classic Who stories with UNIT so we can imagine that the Doctor probably mentioned something afterwards. "No. No, I can't. I've been to Ruby Road once, and I can't cross over my own history. The one night that we need to see, and I have time-locked myself out of it.", The Doctor, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" In Classic Who, they had a name for this but other than a sneaky casual reference to a name (not the effect) in "Kill the Moon", I don't think the name of the effect has ever been mentioned in New Who. "My father, he'd tell me stories about you when I was a kid. He'd sit there in the firelight, telling tales of the Doctor, his eyes ... shining. But he never, ever mentioned a granddaughter.", Kate Stewart, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" We love callbacks to the Brig! However, Doctor Who-pedants wonder about this statement. ... Spoilers! "Oh, leave her to me. I nursed my old mum through diabetes and a hip operation. She died of an ulcer. But that was when I wasn't looking.", Mrs Flood, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" Oh, Mrs Flood again. "Well, we'd all like a lot of things ... that aren't going to happen.", Mrs Flood, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" That's chilling! "Sutekh originally created by Lewis Greifer.", Credits of "The Legend of Ruby Sunday". "Pyramids of Mars" was credited as being written by "Stephen Harris" but, as I mentioned when you watched parts 3 and 4 of the Classic show, that was a pseudonym. The original script (and the creation of the Sutekh character) was by Lewis Greifer but his script was completely reworked by the then script editor. RTD has pierced through the pseudonym and given credit to the correct creator of the character. As mentioned below, Sutekh is voiced by Gabriel Woolf who was in the Classic episodes - that's a gap of 49 years! And, of course, he also voiced the "Beast" in "The Impossible Planet" / "The Satan Pit". "It was the wrong anagram.", The Doctor, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" "Sue Tech" wasn't really an anagram clue, was it? "I bring Sutekh's gift of death to all humanity.", Susan Triad, "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" That's a direct quote from that Classic story! And it was the one I used at the end of my comments on parts 1 & 2 - and that's not a coincidence - what a great line!

Yes this is packed with suspense. Great to see unit and the time window idea is pretty good. Will the final episode pay off the build up ? We’ll have to wait and see.
