With the Doctor having left Karvanista, I don't think it was deliberate. We know from what we've seen of the Fugitive Doctor that she went on the run from Division, and so I think the reason that Karvanista never saw her again is because Division eventually caught the Fugitive Doctor, and then Tecteun fully wiped her mind and reset her into a baby boy, the boy who grew up on Gallifrey into the old white haired guy we know as the First Doctor. And so because the Doctor had forgotten all about Karvanista and never came back to see him, Karvanista took that as rejection and kept as far away from the Doctor as possible.

Actually, you can even see traces of COVID signage during the filming - in the shot when the Sontarans are marching through the shopping centre you can see COVID warning banners "Hands/Face/Space". "Oh, please be correct. Please be true.", Yasmin on seeing the label for December 5th 2021, "The Vanquishers" And that matches the date this episode was broadcast. Recall that the first episode of this season also matched the episode broadcast date. I don't know what that means - it's pretty rare to do it - and they did it twice in the season. "I'm the leader of Human Resistance Against Sontaran Occupation. The name's Stewart. Kate Stewart.", Kate Stewart, "The Vanquishers" Go, Kate, channelling James Bond! We love Kate. "We must join together to survive this threat against us. Except Rutans. Rutans, you remain hideous scum and must be obliterated.", Stenk, "The Vanquishers" The Rutans, long-running enemies of the Sontarans, get a mention in almost every Sontaran story starting with the very first Sontaran story - and we even got to see them in yet another Classic Who story - although so far not in New Who. Of course this proposal to join together wasn't genuine. But, we recall that in "The Pandorica Opens" the Daleks, Cybermen and Sontarans did unite to trap Matt's Doctor. We are invulnerable!", Shallo, "The Vanquishers" Earlier we saw how the Sontarans left their entire base vulnerable when they all went inside at the same time. Now, we see that some have a weakness for chocolate. Yet, they want to be considered vanquishers of the universe - vanquishers of a corner shop, perhaps. And long-term Strax actor, Dan Stakey, is back playing Shallo, the chocolate addict - along with playing two other Sontaran roles in this episode. "She rescued herself! Another Doctor. 2025-04-28 10:08:40 +0000 UTCI also want to say you talk about "changing networks" it's not quite right. The show after this is still made by the BBC on the same network, it's just that it's also on Disney+ and they provided some extra budget. They don't own Doctor Who or anything like that.
