"What do you call this look - junkyard chic?", The Doctor, "Resolution"
This is very good and as Jade mentioned it was broadcast very close to the end of the normal series so you could treat it like a finale if you want. It's also pretty cool that the episode action takes place on the day it was broadcast (like David's "The End of Time: Part One" and Matt's "The Big Bang")
BTW: I had to double-check that my tool had grabbed the correct IMDB rating for this one - I don't understand the low 6.0 rating.
As I've mentioned before, I'm not a fan of "monsters" changing their mode of attack but this seems ok to me. We haven't seen a Dalek take control of someone by hanging on their back, but this is a "reconnaissance scout" (and we haven't seen one before) and I guess it could do different stuff - I can give the writer that.
At least they didn't put the word "Dalek" in the title - that was always a major giveaway in the Classic show where a Dalek would show up. I mean, how big a surprise could it be for the viewer if Daleks turns up in a story called "The Evil of the Daleks"?
In order to disguise things, Nick Briggs (the voice of the New Who Daleks) wanted to make it sound different from the normal Daleks when it is speaking to Lin - before the full reveal. Also, as an additional disguise to keep the Dalek reveal secret, Nick Briggs wasn't credited in the pre-show episode listings - Who fans would have recognised his name.
"Now, must remember, how long's a rel?"
From extensive historical research (across Classic Who and Doctor Who), a Dalek rel seems to be a bit over a second. But it's fun that the Doctor is still a bit unsure.
"That Dalek just shut down the whole of Britain's Internet.", ... "What a monster.", The Doctor and Ryan, "Resolution"
Followed by an amusing little slice-of-life by the family who's Internet has been taken away.
And, I also need to mention the amusing scene when the Doctor tries to call UNIT.
"Oh, you're good, Ryan's Dad. You're almost making up for your parenting deficit.", The Doctor, "Resolution"
Good stuff with the appearance of Ryan's dad and the talks between Aaron and Ryan and between Aaron and Graham. Graham is such a good character.
"Are we going to microwave the Dalek in the end?", Nicole, Reaction to "Resolution"
It's Chekhov's Gun - well done! However, it's a bit difficult to understand why Aaron is carrying around an oven when he was planning to visit Ryan.
"Take these. Three a minute for four minutes. Don't take with alcohol - you'll grow an extra head.", The Doctor, "Resolution"

This is a great episode. Series 11 had only finished about two weeks previously so yeah in many ways this does feel more like the finale of the series than the last episode. I love the Dalek design and really regret not getting one of the action figures of it at the time.
It's a 5/5 and ranked 42nd/140.

In terms of it takes you away, I know you really don’t like this episode but I really love it and I would personally give it a 7.5-8/10. It feels so creative and it really does get better and better on rewatches imo.

In terms of this episode, I would say this is one of the best dalek stories ever. It is so creative and feels so doctor who-y!!! For me this is a 9.5/10! I can’t wait for series 12!

I agree with your rating 💯 I will try and give you a brief explanation of the IMDB ratings for Jodie’s era. From the moment she was announced, unfortunately a sizeable portion (or vocal minority) of the fan base was really opposed to a woman playing the Doctor and thought it was pushing a “woke” agenda, which is so so stupid and I don’t think those people are really fans. Every week before the episodes were released, thousands upon thousands of toxic fans who were against Jodie and the current show would review bomb the episodes before they would come out, which explains most of the lower ratings. I feel so so bad for Jodie because she is the sweetest woman and I really love her era and so do many others but it seems like you can’t google her name or her doctor on YouTube and the internet without tonnes of hateful videos about her and her era. It is so unjustified and I truly believe she was one of the best doctors who had some of the best episodes and best era for myself and many other people.

Amazing episode and amazing reaction!! I remember watching this for the first time in 2019 and being so happy to see the Daleks back. Everything about this episode is perfect to me, and the cast really shine (especially Jodie) she’s seriously so so good at embodying the Doctor. She’s in my top 3 doctors of all time. For me, her performance in this episode alone proves all of the haters wrong. I can’t wait for you to continue this fantastic journey (or brilliant as the 13th Doctor would say 😉) I can’t wait for you to watch Series 12. Happy holidays and have a great new year Nicole!!

I always regard THIS story as the season Finale :) It's a fun, creepy, witty and exciting Dalek story. The sort of thing that ought to have comprised the whole season! Many fans moaned at the gag referring to the UNIT cutbacks (presumably because it was implied to be the result of Brexit) but my only complaint was that the BBC trailer heavily implied that there would be a car chase....which there wasn't :( Never mind - it's an entertaining romp, all the same

Like Jenny I haven't rewatched this episode for a long time but unlike her I couldn't think what else the Lin actress had been in. Ghosts! Of course.
Love the episode and the reaction. I think most people felt that way about the main part of the story. The junkyard Dalek was awesome and the whole concept of a dormant creature from an ancient war was really good too. I liked the two archaeologists and it was an interesting twist to see Ryan's dad turning up after all this time. But there were a few people online who complained about Ryan and his dad discussing emotional issues and compared it to a soap opera! I suspect they were just determined to find fault. People like that probably dragged the rating down. My only reservation was about the family with no WiFi saying "we'll have to have a conversation" which I thought was a bit corny. But that is a really minor and personal gripe. A score of 6.00 is just insane. I do still like ITYA though!
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and looking forward to seeing your reactions to series 12!

I’m pleased you liked the episode. It’s really great and I understand your disappointment about last weeks ep. I haven’t seen this one since it went out in January 2019, but I enjoyed it very much it just shows that Chris Chibnall can write a good story when he tries. The lady who plays Lin is Charlotte Richie and I thought she did a great job. She is well known in the uk for her role in a comedy series called Ghosts. Can’t quite believe we are nearly in Jodie’s second series. Hope you had a great Christmas and a happy new year. x
