Dr. Who Reaction Series 10 - Thin Ice

Yeah, it reminded me about the Moon episode as well, I just forgot to talk about it :D And I agree with your resoning about that Clara situation and how different the doctor reacted this time. I for myself thought he only did it in a different way with Bill cause he still doesn´t know her too well, and isn´t sure she would make the right decision, like he did with Clara. And also he knew she was very different as a character and not stable enough for him to leave her alone already. I like your reasoning with the Amy situation. :)

Oh no, I´m so sorry that you haven´t been feeling well. I hope it´s better now :) I agree with your rating and I really hope this downwards trend is not going to continue for a long time. I´m in need of a good Dr. Who episode :D Thank you for the feedback of the IPlayer. :)

Haha thank you for reassuring :) This guy made me so angry, i couldn´t hold myself back. Thank you for the Feedback about the IPlayer, that´s very helpful :) We don´t have that much stuff either, but since it´s the first move in 12 years and the first one we are doing together as a couple, it´s very exciting and also frigthening. I have a guitar, that´s all the musical instruments. I can´t play it anymore, but I can´t give it away either :D

I´m glad that you were able to enjoy the episode. :) Me mentioning "The beast below" wasn´t meant in a negative way. It´s ok, if themes are repeated, if it´s done in a good way. :) I agree with you about the doctor and how his reaction changed from how he reacted to those kind of situations before. I wanted to talk about it in the review, but unfortunately I forgot to do that.

This one reminds me of the Beast Below too, also the Kill the Moon episode where the Doctor makes Clara choose the outcome; kill the creature or risk killing lots of humans. What's funny though is right before you mentioned the Beast Below I was just thinking to myself, I think that's the reason the Doctor makes Clara and Bill choose the outcome. He tried to give the beast brain damage, but Amy was the one who freed the beast. I think in that moment he made the decision that humans really need to decide the future of humanity, and not him.

Ok haven't been commenting on the recent reactions even though I watched them because I've been ill. This as many have said is a fairly average episode. It's ok but nothing really that stands out. I do like the Doctor punching Sutcliff though and his speech about the value of life. And the scenes between the Doctor and Bill are great. My rating for this is 3/5 and I have it ranked 98th/140. For comparison The Pilot was 5/5 and is 72nd/140 and Smile was 4/5 and ranked 96th/140. So although I really enjoyed the series so far the stories were getting slightly worse each time. I do like how the series is currently following the same trend as the early series of a modern day episode, a future one and then an historical like in the first 5 series. As for the i player thing. Yeah that's how I watch the episodes and it all lined up great for me.

I love how angry you get with the antagonist, I share your anger. So the swearing (for me anyway) is wholly justified. I have never understood racism, it makes no sense. On the episode it is as Stephen mentions a getting to know you episode. I like how angry Bill gets at the doctor’s apparent disregard at the little boys death, before realising that he does indeed care very much. The more I rewatch this series with you, the more I like Bill. As far as the IMDb rating goes I would rate it a bit higher but not much probably a 8.1. I have been watching along on bbc iPlayer so I’m good with you watching it on that too, I think we were slightly out of sync before. I hope your packing goes well I moved into my house 15 years ago with not much stuff, now I have loads. My musical instruments alone would fill a van. lol . I know it must be really hard especially if you have to get rid of some things. Good luck. xx

I think I enjoyed this episode more than you or the average IMDb reviewer did. I'd probably give it an eight. Yes, it's another "getting to know each other" sort of story but I'm basically fine with that. It's not one of those unforgettable edge-of-your-seat stories but, for me, it's solid and thoroughly enjoyable. Especially if you are not bothered by close-up shots of eyes. And, as you noted, we have to do this with all new Doctor/companion pairings. And there is usually a point in every series when the arc (if there is one) becomes apparent and things start to get serious. And we always recognise that point when we see it. You're right of course about the poor exploited creature below the surface being a bit of a rerun of The Beast Below from series five. But it's given a different twist and I think The Doctor has learned from both that occasion and the eggy moon one where he just bailed out and left Clara to bear the responsibility on her own. This time he is just honest and says that only a representative of humanity can decide what to do. And he somehow manages to makes Bill feel good about that. Yes, the racist Lord is a horrible character but that's exactly what we need for the plot. A bigot with no empathy for anyone not as privileged as himself. Who gets his just desserts at the end. And the street urchins get the house. Result. Oh, and I absolutely love the Frost Fair setting. Even if we didn't get to see Stevie Wonder. (edit) I think I already said something about seeing the actors who played Rory and Clara on stage, in different productions. But I also went, a few years ago, to see the Harold Pinter play The Birthday Party at a theatre in London. The main character was played by Toby Jones but one of the other members of the cast was Pearl Mackie (Bill, in other words). I do sometimes see plays that don't have people from Doctor Who in them though. Honestly.
