Classic Who reaction. Spearhead from Space Part 4

I´m so sorry everyone, I didn´t feel well in this recording and I guess it shows. I wish it wasn´t like that, but I felt ok when I started, just a little tired, but it got worse while I was recording, and I couldn´t just cut in the middle of it. That would have made things even more complicated in the editing process, so I watched until the end and this is the result. I hope it´s somewhat enjoyable anyway. I´m really sorry.....

Thank you for clarifying the microphone scene :) The fact about the windows is super interesting. There are so many more thoughts that go into an episode like this, that you as a viewer are not even aware of. Thanks for the backround info on Robert Holmes :)

"Smith. Doctor John Smith.", The Doctor, "Spearhead from Space" The waxworks in the dark scene is a bit creepy. Certainly Caroline John, the actress playing Liz, said so in later interviews. Not much acting required there. Just to clarify - you probably picked up this in the edit - when the Doctor asks the fake General Scobie to say some words into the microphone, it was only a trick to get the device closer to the replica. The were not able to film the Auton mannequins actually smashing the large shop windows for budgetary reasons. RTD made sure that we actually saw windows being smashed in the restaging of the scene in "Rose". FYI Caroline John (Liz Shaw) performs the audiobook reading of Elizabeth Sladen's autobiography. This is a fine story by one of the most prolific Classic Who writers, Robert Holmes. A lot of the lore in Classic Who (like the Autons aliens and the Doctor having two-hearts) were introduced in the various Holmes's stories. He went on later to be script editor on the show. IMDB: 8.2

I´m glad I´m not alone with the vaporisation theory. :) I can understand that the episode was way scarier for you if you were only 12 years old. At 12 years old I watched "The last unicorn" and was so frightened that I was never ever able to watch the movie ever again. Not even as an adult :D The bath helped indeed. The problem with those back pains is, most of the time they do cause headache as well. That´s when it influences me the most. But it got better, when I relaxed a little in the warm water :)

I´m sorry for your back pain. Mine is all better now. But wow, aerial hoop lessions....What an interesting sport activity. I have never heard of anyone doing that. I find it really interesting. :) I think you´re right about the comparison between New Who and Classic Who. I think that might be the reason why I do not enjoy the Classics as much. But that doesn´t mean I wont do any Classics in the future ever again. But I do think I need to take a break unfortunately. Well see what the future brings. Thank you for that dog theory, I think I like that one more :D

It´s a pity that I didn´t enjoy those last two episodes. I wish I had. I guess ma problem is, that the New Who series is sooooo great at the moment. And in comparison the Classics are just not as good. Speaking from my perspective of course. If you grew up with the Classics I can totally imagine it, beeing the other way around. I enjoyed the doctor though :)

I agree about the vaporisation and I like the dog theory. Dogs know when something is wrong and they don't always stick around to find out what it is. I have very vague memories of watching this story for the first time. I was very sorry to lose the second Doctor and I knew Jon Pertwee mostly as a comedy actor. Plus I didn't like the idea of the stories being Earthbound and the Tardis not actually going anywhere. So there was a big hill to climb. I did like this story a lot though and found it a lot scarier than anybody would today. The effects were as good as we were likely to see at the time and I would have been 12 when it was broadcast. Sorry you are having pain with your back. That's no fun at all. I hope the hot bath helps and you feel better soon.

You have my sympathies with your back, I've had back pain for the last four days. I'm just hoping it heals enough in time for my aerial hoop lesson tomorrow. Don't feel you have to apologise for not enjoying this story as much. Maybe it was the tiredness and back pain, but also Classic Who is very different to modern day Who and can sometimes seem underwhelming. That said I really hope to see some more classic reactions. In fact there is a follow up to this story which I'd like to see a reaction to some time in the future. and yes basically I think those people were vaporised. Also the dog from part 3. As we don't see it I always believe it got scared and ran off or hid and I'm sticking to that theory.

A pity your back problems got in the way of your enjoyment. This is a popular story, though; and I feel that the plot is well developed. Obviously, when watching Classic episodes you need to accept the fact that the budget simply won't allow for large-scale battle/action scenes - but they try to make up for that in other (more quirky) ways. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction, though. It's always fun to watch these old episodes through new eyes :)
