Classic Episode - Spearhead from Space Part 2

You are not too empathetic, at least I had the same feelings while watching. :D It´s kinda strange to feel empathie and fear at the same time, watching those factory scenes. :D Thank you giving me a little bit more info about the episode, and your opinion about certain scenes :) Also thanks for letting me know about the IMBD rating :) I din´t even know, before you let me know, that there were ratings for older shows as well. :)

I'll give that a listen! And here's the Kraftwerk song in case Nicole or anyone else hasn't heard it and would like to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ9Stc9ONyY

Talking about shattering illusions ... The Genesis song "Me and Sarah Jane" has lyrics that seem to relate to Sarah Jane from Doctor Who. But it has nothing to do with Doctor Who - it's just a coincidence in the name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivl5we8rW5E Listen to it and tell me that you don't relate it to our Sarah Jane. (There are no story spoilers here - it's not our Sarah Jane.)

"What are you doctor of, by the way?", "Practically everything, my dear.", Liz Shaw and the Doctor, "Spearhead from Space" I think the doll factory montage is intended to be creepy. People would have had dolls in their house unaware, perhaps, of the suffering the dolls are put to as their eyes are forcably injected into their eye sockets. Or am I being too empathetic to the plastic dolls here? The writer has created a nice set of auxiliary characters - the old poacher and his wife, the annoyed doll salesman and the factory manager. It really does get quite tense in the scene when the salesman is having his argument, but we know that there is something much more sinister happening than the salesman is aware of. There's a nice bit of physical action when Seeley (the old poacher) is examining the meteorite/energy unit and when his wife appears he clumsily knocks the trunk closed as he tries to hide the sphere. He can't put in in the trunk, so he has to hurriedly hide the unit in his shed but that means that it can continue to signal to the mannequin in the forest for just that bit longer. The shower scene! The tattoo is a little controversial. Jon Pertwee got the tattoo when he in the Navy so that's why it's there. But as to why the Doctor has a tattoo. Well, (a) this is a new regeneration so his whole body is different - so why not? and (b) we have recently learned that Time Lords do have tattoos - the Doctor in "The Doctor's Wife" said that the Corsair had the same tattoo in every regeneration. And we see another cameo from Derrick Sherwin (the series producer) - he's the UNIT person who doesn't answer back when the Doctor drives up and demands to be let into the UNIT offices. IMDB: 8.0

Oh thanks for sharing their name. I had forgotten about it :) I have never heard a song of Kraftwerk, so I do not know the music video. However Memory GPT told me that: "The Classic Doctor Who episodes were first broadcast in Germany in the 1970s and 1980s. The exact dates of the first broadcasts may vary depending on the region and the specific episode, but the show was generally aired on public television channels such as ARD and ZDF." So it could be possible, that they used them :) edit: I just saw Andrews reply and I think it´s about the music video. But I haven´t clicked on the link (thanks for the possible spoiler warning). So maybe my news are old already. :D :D

The animated plastic dummies (Autons) are the same as the ones you saw in the first nu Who episode. I don't know if you ever listen to the German electronic band Kraftwerk, but in 1977 they released a song called Showroom Dummies in which the dummies come to life, break out of the shop window and go to a club. I was convinced at the time that they had based the song on this story but I'm not sure now if Doctor Who was shown on German TV back in the seventies.
