Dr. Who Series 5- The Big Bang

Important before watching:
In the review is a part with longer footage of Doctor Who. In case Youtube Copyright-strikes this video for that reason, I will upload a second backup reaction, in which the part is blurred our and muted, but you will be able to watch the whole reaction.

I hope we wont need this second video, but you never know with Youtube :)

Dr. Who Series 5- The Big Bang

I like little Amy, too. But I like the grown up version a little more :) :) I love that story. Liked the first part, too. But the second one is soooo much better. :) Ohhhh thank you for letting me know about the animals in the museum. I didn´t put those things together. But it´s really sad, if you pick up on the reason, why they are there in the museum. So thank you for pointing that out. :) Hahaha dance like a giraffe. So that´s what this was :D :D

Thank you so much Kevin :) I´m glad you enjoyed it :)

Haha yeah, I´ve read that already. :D I don´t think it´s such a big deal, but I know there are always those fans who get angry at the slightest mistake. Instead of just beeing happy about the work that other people put into this show, to give them some entertainment. For me, this is one of the best finales, too. But than again, I´m still missing a few :D

Thank you for your thoughts on this episode. :) 4.5 is still a good rating, but I get what you mean. :) And I also enjoyed the positive ending, even if River took some of that happyness away. At least for me :) Thanks for the headsup about the possible Youtube comments, can´t wait for the discussions over there. :D Seeing River in that wedding scene felt a bit odd for me, too. But it got better, the minute I saw her book, and I understood that this was her mission in the first place. To give Amy the book so she remembers. I haven´t seen the doctor either, you´re not alone. :D By the way, you wrote all of this on your smartphone? Wow I hate writing on a smartphone. It takes so much time. So thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it, even more now, that I know it has probably taken an hour to write it :D :D

You´re right. This is an episode one has to rewatch several times to really understand what´s going on. Thank you for the clarifications about Rorys character. That´s very helpful :) I should have guessed that Moffat is the genius behind this episode. And I do rather enjoy an episode for what it is, than picking it apart because of plot holes. I mean, in a story like this, you will have them, you wont be able to think of everything, but does that mean you shouldn´t write them in the first place? I don´t think so. I had soooo much fun, and this is what counts in the end. Oh, so I was right about the episode with James Corden, my subconsciousness wasn´t lying to me :) Thank you for the info about the doctor beeing in that one shot. I´ll definately pay attention to it, while editing :) I´m glad you enjoyed the reaction :) And let´s get to the Christmas story :) :)

"Ok, kid. This is where is gets complicated.", Amy Pond, "The Big Bang" I love young Amelia (Caitlin). Actually, I think I like her a little more than the older Amy. Amelia's Aunt mentions the Star Cults that believe that stars exist - "I don't trust that Richard Dawkins". A nice Richard Dawkins reference. Richard Dawkins had a cameo in "The Stolen Earth" episode. "I could do with a ridiculous miracle about now", Rory, "The Big Bang" This is a great story. I think I rate it about the same as the IMDB crowd. I do like the comedy time-jumping - it's just the right length - not too long. I don't think that would work for me it they kept on doing that. Something they pointed out in the BTS is that the penguin (that young Amelia bumps into) is in an exhibit about the penguins of the Nile in Africa. The reason the polar bear is there is because it's in an exhibit about the polar bears in Australia. History is a mess at that point. When I first watched the Angels episode, I also noticed that the Doctor in that scene was apparently wearing his jacket - but I had no clue what that would eventually mean. Moffat wove his finale into those previous episodes very cleverly. The script said the Doctor should dance like a giraffe - Matt came up with the dance actions. Oh, and I love the fez. I adore that the Doctor collects it by accidentally bumping into the exhibit, and then, confused about what he should do with it, he just puts it on his head. It gets shot in the end - RIP fez. "I wear a fez now. Fezzes are cool!", The Doctor, "The Big Bang" "Legs - yes. Bow tie - cool. (He checks his head and something is missing) I can buy a fez.", The Doctor, "The Big Bang"

I enjoyed your reaction SO much!!!

Darn, Andrew got there first with the story about how fans thought that scene was a continuity error. Never mind, I'll just go on to say this episode is a 5/5 for me and it's ranked at number 26/140 which I think is still a good position. It's my 6th favourite finale although two of those you haven't come to yet. The others is the one where Eccleston regenerated, the one where donna left and the one where Rose left. I love the use of the old wedding saying in this story. And Amy and Rory are the first companions to have more than one series since Rose.

Checking back through my notes just now I was a bit surprised to see that I hadn't given this episode a full 5 out of 5, although my rating of 4.5 is still very good. It might be that I would rate it higher now, as each time I've rewatched this episode I think I've appreciated it more. This is certainly a rare example of a two-part story that had a better second part. I especially like how it ends on a lovely, positive note, with three happy people going off on an adventure together in the Tardis. Once you post your video on YouTube you will be inundated with comments about the scene from "Flesh and Stone"! Back in 2010 a lot of fans thought there was a continuity error because the Doctor loses his jacket earlier, but he's wearing it when talking to Amy; I'm sure I can even remember some fans angrily claiming this "error" as proof that the new production team were sloppy and careless and things were better when RTD was in charge! Anyway, Matt is outstanding in that scene, and in others in this episode, such as when he's in the Pandorica asking Amy about her parents, and also when he's talking to young Amelia while she's asleep; great examples of a young actor capturing the sometimes weary age of the Doctor. The only quibble I have with the episode is River walking past the wedding reception. When I first saw it (I think on a taped recording off an SD broadcast) the picture quality wasn't great (and maybe my brain was scrambled!) and I thought it was initially a different woman who *reminds* Amy of River, leading her to see her as River, and I think that would've made more sense and would've been more satisfactory. Finally, despite repeated viewings, I seem to be the only person who's never spotted the Doctor in the background (?) in the museum. (Sorry for the lack of paragraphs, there's no way of using them on a smartphone.)

An astonishing episode which I had to re-watch a couple of times before I (just about) understood it. I remember a few episode into the next series suddenly thinking "hang on, is Rory still made of plastic?" The answer is "no" of course as he is the new real Rory in the new rebooted universe. He just has the same consciousness and thus kept some of the same memories. Even though they were buried at first. I think that's right. But I still think that bringing the Doctor back was actually magic. Both parts of the finale were written by Steven Moffat, the man who took over as "showrunner" at the beginning of this series. So he would have planned all the twists and turns and how they would be resolved. Probably. Moffat is a little bit controversial as some people (including me) love his convoluted plots with all their hints and clues that you don't understand at first. But some people get irritated by this approach and like to point out any plot holes they have spotted. Trivia: The two women talking to young Amelia about the stars are her aunt and (I think) a child psychologist or psychiatrist. The scene with adult Amy near the end is from The Lodger, the episode with James Cordon. She is writing or delivering the note about wanting to stay at his flat. When young Amelia goes into the room in the museum where The Pandorica is kept, have a look at the right of the screen. There is a person just behind her, only half in shot, wearing a brown jacket. That's Matt/The Doctor! Loved the reaction as ever and I'm so glad you enjoyed the story. I think you will like the Christmas episode but of course it is impossible to be sure about these things.
