even though I was rooting for damian the whole time when it first aired, rewatching this for the first time I was pretty shocked he made it as far as he did. however, by the end, I understood it again. I think ryan and the writers saw him as a chris colfer/cory combo. for cory - the awkwardness and suboptimal singing voice, but cory improved sooo much over the course of the show. chris because he inspired them to create the role of kurt and was so young and I think damian is definitely the most earnest at least of the final four. also, they knew he had good work ethic from his touring experience and a great attitude and willingness to learn. and I disagree I think damian is so cute! now too, following him on instagram lol. i was thinking they would probably want someone to win that wouldn't possibly cause any issues on set (like the apparent dramatics of alex and lindsay) because they so publicly committed to 7 episodes so if they won, theyd have to give them their 7 episodes even if they were terrible to work with. like everyone here, I agree rory and joe were not fleshed out at all but it was still so much fun to see them on the show the next season because I felt like I knew them. also I think it would've been funny if they brought lindsay back just like one more time at one of rachel's broadway auditions. also ive never thought about this, but it's pretty funny that the conclusion of this season is kind of "we're all winners, it's a tie!" with all of the final 4 getting spots on the show because that's the same attitude sue makes fun of will and the glee club for having.
