SUPER FANS: ”YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL” LANA DEL REY EXTENDED EDITION

I would say to us who understand nuance and know Lana , never really saw her as having controversial musica be cause we understood her and her intentions. But it can’t be denied that she got a lot of hate for “glorifying” abuse and toxic relationships especially in ultraviolence. I mean I never saw it that way. But you know that suburban moms were banning their children when they heard those lyrics from UV 😂😂 but I think Audrey has enough life experience and understanding to know that’s not her intention.

Hey Audrey, so she is like an idol to artists like Taylor, Olivia & Sabrina. And me! Lol…And you're correct once again; all of her work is Art. I look at it as a 12-year series of masterpieces! And that’s just going from the Born To Die album until today; not including her much lesser-known work. She always said she didn't want to be looked at or seen as a “Pop” artist, so that's why she has swapped her genre up and mixed genres up numerous times; so as NOT to be pigeon-holed into a singular type of artist. I think this may have something to do with why she's not as “mainstream” popular. Also, maybe I'm just a music snob, so be it…I’ll own that, BUT I feel like the majority of people today would not know music that isn't mediocre, at BEST! They wouldn't know what to do with EXCEPTIONAL music (like Lana’s) if it slapped them in the damn face. 🤷🏻‍♀️ She was asked to write this specifically for the movie version of “The Great Gatsby,” and honestly that's right up her lane! Most of her work has a vintage, classic Americana, nostalgia-like feel to it. She DOES NOT perform with an orchestra. I believe I told you how many times I've seen her play and the several times I've gotten to actually hang with her, and she is just the sweetest, borderline shy, relatively quiet, funny, grateful, and humble person one could ever hope to know. She'd much rather have a small group or one-on-one convo. rather than scream over a big group of people all trying to talk. Depending on the venue and her set time, she may have differing forms of strings, but aside from that, she uses a basic band of piano, drums, guitar, and bass, and her vocals…that's pretty much it. Also, she rarely has back-up singers! She was born and raised RIGHT here in the US of A! She just does that strange, ultra-cool thing I was saying in Summertime Sadness (I think) that Alanis Morissette does with some of her words. She Elongates OR shortens them, according to the melody; Also, she’ll break a word down into several syllables to make it match the melody better. And, lastly, for now, I think what most are talking about when they say “controversial,” isn't REALLY controversial. I think they are talking about some of the things she speaks about in her music, which I'm not giving ANYTHING away…she’s made it well-known, that she has had addiction issues in the past, as well as a lot of family issues, and I think when she brings these things up, that's what people “take” as being a so-called “controversial.” Now, that being said, over the last 12 years, especially, she's had her share of controversies! However, she's not like Eminem (love him), and she's not about to start a rap beef over her true life controversies, calling everyone out on the mic who’s ever called her out! No, we won't see that. Although…Lana can rap!!! She’d much sooner just tell them to, “Go get f**ked.” 🤷🏻‍♀️ More backstory later!

CAN’T believe it's almost 1 a.m. CST, and I haven't seen this!!! Now, I have to watch and listen!!!! Yay! And answer any questions that you may have asked that possibly didn't get answered!!!

The monologue in Ride…PERFECTION! Yeah, I told her I could start from BTD to current-day giving her amazing Lana shit to listen too!

i love that you are like this song is art and so complex and it’s one of her simpler songs that just shows how good she is i would love to see your reaction to something like her songs kintsugi or a&w you would lose it! also see that you’re going to react to video games one of my favorite lana songs and i think is the one to make her blow up

fry

there is a music reactor by the name of Ajay who when reacting to lana’s albums she always wears a witch hat lol

I also wanted to ask what YOU want to hear from her. Maybe that would be helpful cause I know so many people are suggesting songs from all over her discography. So is there a specific kind of vocal you want to hear more? Maybe a certain topic she writes about? Maybe a different genre?

Also yes I would say that Evermore is probably heavily inspired by Lana. I know that Taylor’s song Wildest Dreams from 1989 was heavily inspired by Lana’s song “without you”. They also both have credited Joni Mitchell as a huge inspiration. I think that’s where they both get the descriptive thing from.

Lana Del Rey has a phenomenal career for sure. One of the reasons this particular song took off because it was on the soundtrack for the Great Gatsby film.

I Am Not Chamari

I’m loving that you’re loving her. So you’ve been listening to her “radio hits” which are more palatable to mass audiences. So the subject matter isn’t too controversial yet. Songs like off to the races, cola, Lolita and the majority of her album Ultraviolence were kinda controversial because they talked about taboo subjects and the way they are highlighted was also pretty heavily controversial. So you’ll get there. Lana is from New York and you will def hear the accent come out in her early stuff. It’s very prominent. She def has more of an LA accent now. But she’s an east coast chick at the heart. I’m soooo excited to see you dive into her and hear all the different sides to her. She does hip hop, jazz, folk, rock. Literally everything. But ya Lana changed pop music. Before her it was very bubblegum pop,boy band type pop, and like punk pop. Lana came around and shook the whole industry with her style. It was so unique. This song does make me sad, knowing how the industry and people treated her when she started getting older and gaining weight. She was horribly treated by the public and called ugly and fat. It was horrible. I guess they completely missed the point of this song. But the true fans have loved her every step of the way. She’s beautiful no matter what she looks like. It’s her soul that shines. So excited for Born to Die and Video games (I snuck a look 😂) I will say though that I’m especially excited for you to get to the paradise ep era and you watch the Ride music video. Now THAT was art. Anyway thanks for the reaction this is going to be such a fun journey.
