I hope Buffy comes back soon. I joined for Glee but was oner the moon to see my go to show as well. When life really socks it was great to watch BTVS and see that it could be worse.

He was busy running everything else with the show. Don't worry - the series gets snappy and quppy in season 2, as the writers room learns his style. There's a few stinkers in the series, but there are few and far between.

This episode and the previous one feel different from the others because they were both written by Joss Whedon, the creator of the series (He also wrote the first, second, and tenth episodes). I hope we get back to this sometime soon - can't wait for season 2 and beyond!

I loved that they really pushed showing Buffy as a 16 yo girl. I feel like it gets overlooked so much, and this was such a good opportunity to show a more vulnerable side to her. Ultimately, she's a scared kid--a really bad ass one, but you know... you're own death lingering just around the corner in a more "official" capacity can do things to a girl. Also, that shift from every day Buffy to angry hurt scared Buffy to the scene with Willow. Talking with Willow about the kids that had been killed... she really stepped into the role of Slayer in a much bigger way, imo. She saw the people she loved being really fucked up by the things happening and wanted to help. Plus, that punch she landed on Giles was golden. Honestly, best way to win an argument with him (obv in a tv sense and not real life). Willow *can* and *will* do so much better than Xander. She has some really great relationships coming up that help develop her character so much. I really related to her when I was watching this, but she was so much cooler and more mature. I absolutely loved that she turned Xander down for the dance and her reasons for explaining why. Not only was she absolutely right, but it was a nice contrast in maturity with the way she handled her own rejection (being second place) to the level of immaturity Xander showed when Buffy turned him down. They're just not good together in my mind. I was really amused by the timing of Miss July on Glee and Miss Calendar on Buffy. I thought that might be a fun problem, but it seems like they just missed it timing wise for you. I *LOVE* Miss Calendar. She was one of my favorites when I watched this. I may have lowkey had a crush *shrugs* Buffy's dress was <3 Not exactly my style at the time, but close. Long dresses were definitely a much bigger thing than they are now. Idk, homecoming and stuff always felt like old Hollywood in a way to me. I always skipped prom, but made it to 2 homecomings and I had fantastic dresses. I feel like there were ten other things I was going to say... big surprise, I know... but they're gone now. Although since he's gone now, one last reminder that OMG the Master always reminded me of the flukeman on the X Files.

Xander says, “Calm may work for Locutus of the Borg here” is a Star Trek reference. I love when tv worlds reference other tv worlds so that the characters don’t feel like they exist in a vacuum.

And that's a wrap on season 1! I'm glad you had fun with it and I hope you'll enjoy the rest of the show too. The more time passes the better the writing gets. They find the characters' voices, but also they have a better sense of what the show itself *is*, where it stands between horror, drama, humor... Loving your predictions about character relationships. (The last few episodes I've had to restrain myself from commenting about maybe-accidental-maybe-on-purpose foreshadowing. Sometimes I wonder if they already had plans or if they were just throwing stuff at the walls to see what sticks.)

This episode was peak Xander douche-baggery....he was just awful, first with his reaction to Buffy saying no and then his actions with Willow, and all the wallowing in self-pity, I didn't like him here at all. And yes I know he saved Buffy, but that doesn't negate his actions before that It does make me laugh though that if they had just accepted her 'I quit' speech, she wouldn't have died. It was the perfect answer

I burst out laughing at your reference to Glee not explaining things. I've been watching another series and been caught off guard numerous times because they explain things, don't leave anything unresolved, and characters don't disappear all of the sudden with no explanation. I think I've been watching too much Glee! I hope you get back to Buffy really soon. Your sense of the script being better is why the series got so much better.

It's theorized that Buffy was feeling stronger after her battle with the master because of the weight of thinking she would die was lifted. There is no reason to think Buffy wouldn't have been strong enough to defeat him. Except for his use of thrall/hypnosis to stop her from running. When that didn't work he was finished.

They didn’t know if they were going to get a season 2, so this was supposed to be a closed ending. Season 2 is much better, but a wild ride, your heart will break.

In the Buffylore, in order to be turned into a vampire, the vampire has to suck your blood, and then you have to suck their blood. Buffy was only bit and then fell into that pool of water, she died by drowning.
