EARLY ACCESS: GLEE - KEEP HOLDING ON

Comments

She truly DOES LIVE ON. I never knew about her until AFTER she passed, yet I feel like I know more about her than almost any other artist out there. It feels to me like she's still here. I am honored to be a hand to hold through reliving the joy of GLEE

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

You get it, Audrey. I’m crying with you, and looking at the same people and feeling the same feels. This show was all those things to me when it aired, and bc of Santana, Naya became this person that I drew strength, humor, inspiration, and comfort from long after the show ended. When she passed, at that time, it was the most powerful feeling of grief I had ever experienced. I was in denial until they found her, and when they did it felt physically painful for so so so so long. I went from following multiple Santana/ Naya and glee related instagrams and tumblr pages, reading glee fan fiction, and listening to glee songs on multiple playlists for about decade, to removing all of it cold turkey. I couldn’t look at her, I couldn’t hear her voice, I couldn’t read a story about Santana… NOTHING. It made my stomach hurt to watch something that only reminded me that she was gone. It was almost 2 years later that the first Santana/Glee related thing I watched was your reaction to her version of Don’t Rain On My Parade. Watching someone discover her for the first time and show completely unbiased appreciation for her talent. It sounds so cliche, but it was the first time I realized she was going to keep living on through her work. If she were still here, I have feeling she would’ve found/been directed to your reaction videos sooner or later. I know it would’ve meant so much to her. She never truly got the kind of respect and admiration she deserved while she was alive. Your page has helped me grieve her and find a way to watch her again.

It was waaay ahead of it's time

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Just wanted to say that Glee will never be over because of everyone who loves the music and the show. The show IS love itself. It was really groundbreaking.

Georgia Beauchemin

I do love this song and have this version in my regular playlist for when I want to sing-along to my music

Jennifer Adame

Yeah!! I do have good ideas every once in awhile. 🤣

Steph Stephens

OMG! That's a beautiful idea! Yes yes! 100% yes!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

This song gets me everytime as well. It's just so emotional and they are all so good at showing it. Having been through a lot in my life, this song is one that helps me push through the pain. I think as we approach the end of Glee, Audrey would you make a post where everyone can say how Glee affected their lives? I love some of the things you've said in this video and I'd love to hear everyones thoughts and feelings. ♥️

Steph Stephens

Yea theres abunch of songs I'll react to once I get to them on season 5

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

there is a season 5 version of this song also. but if i were you i would wait till you watch it during watch party then after react to it bc it could possibly spoil stuff, and we all know you always guess correctly on what would happen. lol🤣

Dylan Appis

It would be interesting to see her in real life

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I don't know if you've seen them in interviews or bts, but Naya comes across as a very calm, unasuming and down to earth person. She speaks so eloquent and softly. She's really acting as an agressive teen when she plays Santana. And it's very easy for her to look like a good girl when she's not frowning XD. I hope you get to see her behind the scenes.

Capri Zonica

Totes for sure. 👏🏼🎊😁 Awww. 🥰❤️

Koko

I didnt realize it was an Avril song! I really liked her music. She seems like a cool chick I'm the lucky one with the community here❤️

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Yea it would have been nice to bring in more parts for the othere singers, but maybe it was the build up that was needed for the next seasons

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

I had no idea what I was getting into when I started watching Glee

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

hahah! They actually become brighter when i cry!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Much love your way sweetie❤️

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Oh that's context I forgot about. Good point!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

The comment about your Dad is so sweet

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Whaaaat!? It's crazy to think that parents would try to talk him out of it. Crazy how people are so worried about the thoughts of others even if it's wrong. I just don't get it sometimes. Sounds like his family needed to move more than he needed to pass up on the part!

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Aw you guys do it to me❤️

Audrey McDonald ( Songs From A Suitcase)

Sorry no one is going to be able to change my mind on this haha. Yes this was a way of the club showing they will be supporting Quinn but it was also in itself a group number and we all know a good majority of “group” numbers were really just Finn and Rachel singing lead. Quinn was singing the chorus too technically. They could’ve easily given the solos Finn sang in this song to Quinn and I feel it would’ve fit how she was feeling at the time. To avoid major spoilers, how this song is used later on is what this performance should’ve been then instead of Quinn singing in it.

Benjamin Smith

my empathetic heart when you started crying... 🙂 🥹 😭

desiderata770

I've noticed that, too. She has really pretty eyes.

AS Much as Don't stop believing is glee theme Keep holding on becomes this ongoing theme though out glee even in glee project cause the message is just so simply keep holding on and the cast and Ryan knew to keep holding on

simon davis

the lyrics are about being there for someone and encouraging them to hold on because it will be okay. It makes sense that Rachel* and Finn and the club are directing the song towards Quinn rather than her taking the lead. Keep holding on 'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through Just stay strong 'Cause you know I'm here for you, I'm here for you There's nothing you could say (nothing you could say) Nothing you could do (nothing you could do) There's no other way when it comes to the truth So keep holding on 'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through *I totally agree that the show, (much like Rachel's character), was too Rachel-focused. I would have preferred the show not treat everyone else like side characters. Towards the end, I was more invested in everyone BUT Rachel (and most of the S4 cast).

desiderata770

I saw Avril Lavigne live last year but unfortunately I don't think she sang this at the concert. I really wish she did

Jay Johnston

Chris Colfer was actually the youngest of the og cast. He was 18 when he got the role of Kurt which is why he looks particularly young in season 1. He was the cast member closest in age to his character. He also actually spoke on Kevin and Jenna's podcast about how his family tried to talk him out of taking the role because he wasn't out as gay at the time and he came from a small town in California that was very homophobic. Glee has a little bit of something for everyone which is something I love about it. It had the power to bring people together into a community 14 years ago all the way to now. Even my dad (who wasn't a huge fan of tv comedies at that point in time) loved Glee. I remember him getting so excited during season 2 of Glee because Carol Burnett was guest starring in an episode and sometimes I'll go back to that episode just in honour of my dad

Jay Johnston

This just brings up memories of how frustrated I would get with the lack of songs for Quinn. Arguably her biggest arc was in season 1 and she sang like 4 songs in all of season 1. I know she’s not a powerhouse singer but Quinn is still my favorite singer because she is so different from the other girls. To this day I still remember how excited I was when Quinn and Sam started singing Don’t Stop together (my favorite couple) only for it to literally turn into a Finn and Rachel duet.

Benjamin Smith

I see what you’re saying but it wasn’t exactly a song for her since they were all performing together including Quinn so I just don’t see why it couldn’t have been her and Finn as the leads. I mean she would be singing it as a way of telling herself to literally keep holding on with her life falling to pieces at the time.

Benjamin Smith

I mean it makes sense because why would Quinn sing the song to herself? This was supposed to be for her. Rachel letting her know despite their dislike towards each other she's part of their Glee family and she's there for her as well.

Kristen J

I get what you are saying Audrey but also this is where Quinn confronts Rachel about her relationship with Finn them Rachel turns it on her threatening to tell Sue about her pregnancy. So I think the vocal choice makes sense in some ways cause Rachel would be mad at Quinn but yes it’s not very Rachel sounding either

Kathy Blois

Well said Audrey! ❤️

Navell

Legit!

Amber Harrison

This has NOTHING to do with the content of the video, but Audrey you honestly have such gorgeous eyeballs and that's all I could think watching the whole thing.

Megan Christina

“If you watch glee, then you’ll understand”- Absolutely, no doubt all the gleeks here feel you! The timing of you reacting to this as a re-watch and while watching early season 5 can only make tears flow. I can’t watch this or hear this without the tears flowing generally. It truly is a song that encompasses the spirit of glee.

Amber Harrison

I might be alone but it never made sense to me to have Rachel singing this with Finn and not Quinn and Finn. That’s one thing I didn’t like about season 1 is it featured too heavily on Finn and Rachel on songs that didn’t always make sense.

Benjamin Smith

Glee 🎶 has its moments.😭 You are not alone Ms. Audrey.🫂 This is from Glee, Season 1: Episode 7: Throwdown. It’s okay that it makes you emotional. 🥹You are a beautiful, compassionate person. ❤️🥲 It’s not easy viewing this show after the tragedies. 📺📱 No matter how often you watch it or how much time elapses, you should expect to cry during a percentage of the episodes as they are so nostalgic. The Glee 🎶 crew is still remarkably close. 🤗 People aspire to and look up 👀⬆️ to their chemistry and relationships. Finding true friends is challenging.😅 What you shared was quite moving. It is hard to believe we are capable of such intense suffering, sometimes. It’s a delight knowing we have you, this community to turn to. ❤️😇✌🏼 The character Matt Rutherford, played by Dijon Talton was on the football team🦶🏼🏈 and in Glee (backup dancer🕺🏽, singer 🎤, choreographer 👣). Still unsure why 🤔 he disappeared. He is very talented. Please do a react 👀 🎉 to the original, contrasting it to this.☝🏼 The Avril Lavigne original is a strong song. No doubt they wanted it to sound like that. It’s one of those tunes everyone needs. They are both fairly awesome 🤩👏🏼 , but Rachel should be more vulnerable. It would shift the dynamic, instead of her drowning 🌊 out everyone else with her incredible vocal gymnastics🎙️🤸🏻‍♀️, lol.😄 I do wonder 🤔💭 if Rachel was directing this song inward also, as encouragement. She too found the scenario to be difficult.

Koko

This video made me cry. That story you told about someone who lost their loved one and couldn't watch this show anymore after that happened until she found your channel really made me cry. I am glad she found this channel and can watch the show with you and us. This song is my favorite Avril Lavine song and I am always emotional with this song as it has the best message for everyone.
