Most of the time scenes like this are cut due to flow and I think that this scene disrupts the flow of the pilot. What we know is that she had a lot of stake in her performance in class that day and we are left wondering why, which makes the connection with the phantoms that much stronger later on in the episode. I also think that by taking this out it allows us as the audience to feel the full impact of the song Wake Up at the end of the episode, which is like a slow reveal of her connection to her mom through music and her singing her mom's song just packs more of an emotional punch without this scene earlier in the episode That said, her acting was amazing in this scene. I hope she continues her acting career
