2023-05-24 10:08:53 +0000 UTCThis movie is a classic 📺 but it never gets old or boring. It is always so fun to watch this, especially when Matilda finds her voice and the courage 💪🏼😅to stand up to her bullies. Also, it is so nice to see a movie where the main character is actually a genius 📚🧠and it is celebrated 🎉and accepted by the significant people in her life. Matilda is such a beautiful young person, she is protective, loyal and true. It is also pretty sweet at the very end with her family. 🤗 Every time I watch this movie 🎥 , it feels like the parents took the opportunity to get at least one☝🏼thing right for her in the end. It will always be such a special movie. The bond the cast shares made this movie extra special.😁 Although the characters do not all get along, you can feel the genuine chemistry between them. Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman really took Mara Wilson under their wing as a child during the process of this movie, even afterward. They are truly caring and compassionate. Such a wonderful cast. Please do Mrs. Doubtfire soon.😂

2023-03-31 08:28:31 +0000 UTCI agree. The relationship built between this version of Honey and Matilda felt way deeper.

2023-03-28 12:49:43 +0000 UTCI've been wanting to check that one out but the reviews seemed so so-so. I'm a sucker for musical shows though and they're so few and far between so I want to give it a chance

2023-03-28 12:46:58 +0000 UTCI remember seeing this one in theaters with my mom, grandmother and younger brother. Loved it then and it will be interesting to rewatch now as an adult.

2023-03-27 17:26:07 +0000 UTCI love this film. I’ve watched it more times than I can count and I just love miss honey. That calm voice and overall calm vibe but also just so loving just made little me so happy. Plus seeing a smart “odd” child on tv was like such representation for me (I’m not Matilda smart I was just a very academic kid, I was always a few school years ahead in maths) but that was enough to make me feel recognised and like it wasn’t just me who was somehow different to my peers (growing up undiagnosed autistic and basically feeling like an alien and as if everyone knew something I didn’t, like I was missing something). Anyway just overall one of my favourite films

2023-03-27 17:24:43 +0000 UTCI looooved Miss Honey growing up. Apparently, I'm not alone either because there's a running bit about her being a lesbian icon. Someone on twitter once asked Mara (Matilda) why so many lesbians loved Matilda growing up. Her answer: "It was one of the few children’s films to show a strong, resilient female character overcome adversity and a family that did not understand her to create her own family and her own happiness through hard work and friendship. Also, they all have crushes on Miss Honey." At one point you wondered what was in Miss Honey's watch. It's a tissue. It's an older thing that people used to do. I know my grandma (and a lot of other people's) would do this so they had one on hand. (And then replace it with a fresh one!!!) I don't like comparing movies or iterations because I know I tend to favor the first one I see, but there were a few points that bothered me plot wise about the musical. (I'm just being picky here I did really like it). I loved the librarian getting such a bigger role--especially the storytelling and their bond. But with that bigger role it felt kind of like they split the role of Miss Honey and, for me, that made the ending feel weird. I feel like this version there was a much more organic dynamic between Matilda and Miss Honey that built over time and they bonded more. Especially because they had so much in common. I don't feel like the musical worked this in as well bc time was split between the librarian and Miss Honey. It made the ending feel rushed and the idea of Miss Honey adopting Matilda and them both being so happy about it just a little off for me. I loved your reactions to this. I'm so glad you liked this movie too!

2023-03-27 15:39:36 +0000 UTCI adored this movie growing up. It was so much fun as a kid and the sentimental nostalgia has held on strong. I can totally see a similarity between Audrey (LIttle Shop) and Zinnia (the mom). Now I'm wondering if Rhea Pearlman (the mom) modeled the character and mannerisms after her, bc it doesn't seem to be quite her typical acting style. I'm sure other people have mentioned this, but Rhea and Danny De Vito (married at the time) kept Mara Wilson with them a lot during this because hermom was receiving treatment from cancer. She died before the final film was cut, and Mara was really upset her mom never got to see it. She found out years later that Danny took a copy of the nearly finished movie to the hospital with him and let her watch it. The movie was also dedicated to her. There's plenty of pictures of everyone floating around the internet, but they had a reunion in... 2013. You can skim through it on youtube and see how everyone looked then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSFG9tTYL5E

2023-03-27 15:11:10 +0000 UTCI've only seen 2 eps so far but really liking the vibe & how they're doing it can't wait to see the other eps not just strictly one point of view per ep.

2023-03-27 05:10:36 +0000 UTCI 100% agree - Up Here is so much fun. It's not perfect, but it is so much fun.

2023-03-27 05:09:09 +0000 UTCI just love this movie - it is one of my nostalgia comfort movies that I watch when I need a pick me up. There some New Jersey references in Matilda - Danny DeVito is from New Jersey. I am from NJ, so I feel like I am obligated to point out at least a few of them!: The license plate on the Wormwood's car is designed exactly like a 1990s NJ license plate (It was better than the current yellow background-black text ones!). The first three digits in the library's number are 732 - the area code for Asbury Park, NJ. And, of course, the "Welcome to Asbury Park" lunchbox shown near the end! During the filming of the movie, Mara Wilson (Matilda)'s mother was dying from cancer - so Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman helped take care of her to help out her father. Mara Wilson's mother was in hospice after filming was finished - she got to see a rough cut of the movie before she passed. One way I read to compare the two is that 1996 is Matilda's view (i.e. more sunny and childlike) and the musical is how Miss Honey would view things (i.e. darker and adult). IMO Pam Ferris as Miss Trunchbull is better than Emma Thompson's Trunchbull. I also liked how this movie fleshed out the Wormwoods a bit more. Also, Mara Wilson looks pretty much exactly the same - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mara_Wilson The actress who played Lavender, Kiami Davael, hasn't acted since 2000. According to IMDB, she and Mara Wilson are still friends! Here is Kiami's instagram page - https://www.instagram.com/officialkiamidavael/?hl=en Also - I would love to see a bootleg of the broadway musical so we can compare the three!

2023-03-27 05:08:42 +0000 UTCYou should watch the new show called Up Here! Its on Hulu but international it's Disney Plus. It's about two people who become a couple who have inner thoughts that sing with them but the inner thoughts are like their parents or an ex high school best friend. There's like 8 eps. Carlos Valdes is one of the stars & he was in the flash so you probably would know him from the musical flash episode you watched. Directed by director of Hamilton & same song writers as Frozen, Book of Mormon & WandaVision

2023-03-27 02:38:57 +0000 UTCAudrey on Little Shop was played by Ellen Greene. Great actress! The mom on here was played by Danny Devito's real wife, Rhea Perlman, who you may have seen on the show Cheers back in the day. They do definitely have a similar look and sound to their voice though!! In my opinion, no one can beat Rhea though. She is hilarious! Not sure I've ever heard her sing though, so Ellen Greene would probably have her there... Rhea and Danny are two of my favorite actors ever.

2023-03-26 23:06:19 +0000 UTCI know thos has NOTHING to do with Matilda, but I just finished binge watching "Up Here" on Hulu, and I highly recommend!! Great original music ♥️

2023-03-26 23:05:14 +0000 UTCWhat I like about this film is that they used practical effects for everything. They really did blow up a tv just for this movie. I do also appreciate that it’s stated the reason no one’s parents have reported the Trunchbull is because it seems completely implausible and they think their kids are lying because it sounds so outlandish. Though I do wonder how the injuries of kids thrown out windows and over fences were explained. The lyrics you didn’t know for send me on my way are ‘I may see you, I may tell you to run, you know what they say about the young’
Mia
2023-03-26 22:41:57 +0000 UTCAnd Danny made sure that her mom was able to watch the movie before she died

2023-03-26 20:59:12 +0000 UTCFun fact - during the montage part Mara was nervous about dancing so Danny (who directed) had everyone dance with her
