2023-03-31 03:01:47 +0000 UTCThere are two books and a kinda coffee table book thing... all aimed at 8-12 year olds. The book adaptation is the worst, imo - the writer seems to have been working from draft scripts or something and then took some... interesting... liberties, besides. It changes a lot of known facts which made me question previously unknown "facts" in it, as well, and doesn't add anything we didn't know to existing TV scenes left intact. I'm not sure how canon the other book is, but it's definitely better... directly after the events in the finale, Luke and Julie have a conversation which leads to a book of backflashes. We get short stories from most of the characters - including Bobby - from the past. I most enjoyed the Luke/Alex (Luke stayed a night at Alex's after running away and was very protective) and Bobby stories. The coffee table book is billed as Julie's songwriting notebook but isn't really set up that way. It has a bunch of photos from the show, the lyrics to all the songs, then stuff like journal entries, some back and forth conversations with various characters and their favorite song lists (the color coding for character voices isn't consistent so that's weird), Carlos ghost hunting entries, some dumbed down articles on Sunset Curve and JATP... and two really random writeups on Puerto Rico. As a full-grown woman 4x the recommended reading age, I'm not upset I bought any of them, though. They were interesting additions. Just not sure on how accurate the info is.

2023-03-15 07:21:33 +0000 UTCNot to put too fine a point on it, but Luke ran away roughly 7 months before he died - there were Christmas decorations up in the scene where they were fighting and the obit Julie looked up in the first episode was July. In the hotdogs scene, if you look behind Luke's head, there's actually a Missing poster. So the really gutwrenching part that a lot of people sleep on is that Luke and his parents are THAT messed up over his death because they were left thinking the worst - that he hated them when he died - and he couldn't do anything to tell them otherwise. The reality is that Luke was torn up over it, even in life, but he felt that he had to have something to show that the band was a worthwhile endeavor before he could revisit the argument... obviously he was prioritizing his music over school et al - we see that from his interactions with Julie - so the argument was a little deeper than just "my parents always regretted getting me that guitar". His parents were trying to discipline him, and as he said in Unsaid Emily, all the arguments he had prepared to make them understand how important the band was to him never came out right when they were actually fighting. Hence, some tangible "proof" necessary. In the book adaptation, he thought the act of playing the Orpheum, itself, would be enough. In the book, Reggie also had a couple siblings... I believe an older sister and a few brothers. I wouldn't take that book as gospel, it was iffy, but Jeremy has confirmed at least one younger brother.

2023-03-14 22:24:03 +0000 UTCEverything about this show is incredible but Unsaid Emily (the song, though also the episode) is truly perfect! No matter how many times I watch it, I'm in tears by the time Luke is ringing the doorbell, it's a problem 😩 since people can hear their music all the time but only see them when they perform with Julie, my personal theory is that they could actually hear Luke sing it but thought it was a sort of memory (remembering his voice, hearing it while they read it) but that they were actually hearing him sing it in the room! Like Elisha said, netflix has behind the band which is a 5 episode series about the creative process, from auditions / casting to rehearsals to the creating of Perfect Harmony, and it's so much fun and definitely worth watching! As unlikely as it is, I can never give up hope of a season 2 coming out eventually, but these are at least a little something to help survive the end of season 1

2023-03-12 03:19:19 +0000 UTCSuch a hard episode to watch with all the feels, but I'm so glad they did it. I had knee replacement surgery a few years ago and I asked the doctor if I should be on bed rest or use a wheelchair to avoid the pain and he said to me, "That's the worst thing you can do. I know it sucks and you're in so much pain, but sometimes we have to work through the pain to get to the healing." I definitely felt like punching him in the face when he said that and it wasn't until I was through my recovery and I was walking again that I realized that he was right. Dealing with grief is a similar journey. We got to see a glimpse of how Luke's parents were living, basically stuck in their grief with only the memory of their last encounter and the pain of finding out that he had passed. I'm glad that they finally got to see Luke's perspective of it through song. As heartwrenching as it was to see all those emotions played out on screen, it really is an important step to get through to the healing side of things. And the actress who plays Luke's mom is phenomenal. I could feel her pain just by watching her expressions and she conveyed all of that without saying a single word in those scenes...she deserved an Emmy for that episode alone. I'm with you on the Orpheum not being their unfinished business, Audrey. You're right that we have no idea about Reggie and Alex's families. Also a bigger question is, "why is that they can be seen by lifers?" That is the whole reason why Caleb wanted their souls in the first place because he felt threatened by them. I'm guessing that it's not common and that it means that they're really powerful because there is something stronger to their purpose...plus, Julie's mom had a past connection to them...I want to say that she had to have been that girl who saw their sound check for the Orpheum...they gave her a t-shirt remember? And Bobby (the fourth member) stayed behind to talk to her while they got street dogs and Julie grew up being friends with his daughter...it all has to mean something! So sad that this is series is wrapping up. I still want to punch Netflix in the face for letting this one go...

2023-03-11 16:37:02 +0000 UTCUgh this episode is so good, it makes me cry everytime. But yah it really sucks theres not more seasons, there was supposed to be! Thats one of the reasons we dont get much background on Alex or Reggie in this season, this season was supposed to be more about Luke and we were supposed to get the other members in future seasons. Supposedly there was even gonna be love song between Willy (skateboard ghost) and Alex!

2023-03-11 05:24:07 +0000 UTCThe Unsaid Emily scene always makes me cry, without fail, and I’ve watched this show so many times that I essentially have the script memorized. Also, Reggie’s my favorite too, and his actor (Jeremy Shada) writes his own music too! He went on his first ever tour last year with his debut album Vintage if you were interested in his music. My favorite song from him is Uh Oh.
