High School Musical was directed and choreographed by Michael Jackson's tour director so he is extremely familiar with his choreography. As you probably know now by doing the watch party, the guy doing the Jackson like choreo was Sharpay's brother.

2022-10-01 05:04:29 +0000 UTCInteresting - I never once associated the choreography with “hip-hop,” but I guess some of those moves can be misconstrued as such. All in all, it was pretty tame and I think a lot of other films at the time were more blatantly trying to do hip hop choreography and this didn’t feel like that at all. I also feel like the repeated movement during the refrain was built in so children could dance along! They even had a dance-along version air on Disney Channel where, they would teach the choreo to the musical numbers and basically everyone in my age group, even now I would say, can do the choreography, which is kind of a perfect way to popularize your movie.
