Gears 5 - HDR Optimized Settings

The game DOES USE/APPLY Xbox HDR Calibration app settings.

Gears 5 has one of the best HDR implementations and it's one of the very few games actually leveraging the system-wide HDR calibration.

The system-wide HDR calibration won't override and/or "hide" in-game HDR control sliders but it works a bit differently.

Once in the HDR SETTINGS menu, trying to push the button to "Reset to Defaults" what will happen is that the "HDR BRIGHTNESS" slider will go read the system-wide HDR Calbration and just apply what's there directly into the game.

The other two controls (CONTRAST and BRIGHTNESS) will have no impact.

If you have an LG OLED and:

> you're using Dynamic Tone Mapping or Dynamic Contrast:

> you're using HGIG:

If you don't have an LG OLED and:

> you don't have an HGIG option:

> you're using HGIG:

In all cases leave the regular "CONTRAST" and "BRIGHTNESS" sliders to their Defaults as those already corresponds to a balanced/correct exposure and gamma.

Thanks so much or like we say in french "merci beaucoup ! " . Maybe it will fix some issues I had with some game images cause I never understood why it looked weird on DV most of the time !

Yes, I universally recommend DV for Gaming off as calibrated HDR is just way much better. You can read more here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/68354628

But just to make sure you don't recommend using DV for games ever or are they some exceptions? I just want to know if I should totally forget about DV on games ever or is it about input lag by staying on HDR ;) thanks for your time and sorry If it has been previously asked !

Ok thanks for the information. Didn't except DV to be that useless for gaming :'(

Disable DV for Games (you can keep DV for Movies) and use HDR for gaming instead.

Hi ! New patron member subscribed here. I have a dumb question but since gear 5 uses Dolby , those settings apply also for Dolby vision or I should desactivate Dolby vision for games and stay only on HDR? Thxs
